Hi/bonjour CAIS-ACSI,
Apologies if you've already received another variation of this in French or on another listserv!
I'm reaching out on behalf of a group of folks in the Canadian GLAMS scene about the increasingly unpredictable behaviour/effects of U.S. institutions and how Canadian institutions should respond to them (as well as how we can ensure Canadian metadata remains independent...). Our current thinking is that we should begin exploring what the process of rebuilding a Canadian catalogue would look like, as well as possibly exploring the repatriation of Canadian records. We've also discussed a potential pathway for the latter—i.e. creating and developing authorities infrastructure (name/subject/vocabulary) for smaller communities and then scaling up to the national level.
We've only had a couple of initial conversations/emails, so we wanted to take the chance to invite anyone interested to some informal Zoom meetings over
the next couple of months to talk/share concerns and to also develop an
application for a grant (from Tri-Council or elsewhere) to support
exploring these ideas further.
Feel free to reach out to me at
bwat...@uwo.ca if you are interested in participating or if you have any questions!
