Koel Puri of India Today gave the film 4/5, saying "[the film] is no path breaker but for the fact that I just can't fault it, I still have a smile plastered on my face and I'll probably go see it again... tomorrow".[22] Subhash K. Jha also gave a 4/5 and said, "Hrishida won't recognise this as his Khubsoorat. But he won't disapprove of what has been done to his work".[23] Rachit Gupta of Filmfare gave the film a 4/5 and said that, "director Shashank Ghosh is no Hrishikesh Mukherjee" though manages "to make a perfect Disney movie. It makes you laugh. It makes you go 'aww' and that goes a long way in a young romance".[24] Saibaal Chatterjee of NDTV also gave a positive review, giving the film a 3.5/5 and saying, "in the end, Khoobsurat is a pretty good show. It is both funny and flashy, but its many flourishes are delivered in measures that religiously avoid excess".[25]

The movie was completely fine, Sonam came off really likeable and definitely knows how to play an over the top cutie. Fawad Khan did what he does best, look extremely handsome. Ratna Pathak and the man portraying her husband probably won me over the most as both played their roles very well. Kirron Kher will always have a special place in my heart, literally just feels like apne hi koi chachi ko screen pe dekh raha hu.

maybe I'm being quite biased because i was too busy thirsting over fawad to see anything wrong in it but it was genuinely a good one time watch and the love felt organic and not some love at first sight bullshit (I'm a sucker for enemies to lovers trope anyway) Its also one of the only bollywood movies that i know which keeps the female gaze in mind but not at the expense of its male love interest who was amazingly cast.

I do think the script could've been better adapted into a ott show or something because it really didn't feel like a movie to me and i get it was a light-hearted romcom but c'mon man you need to give us some conflict like a bitter ex coming back and trying to ruin things to keep us on the edge of our seats, the conflict of fawad's mother being conservative and holding a dislike towards Sonam was solved so quickly, it didn't make me feel anything, the ending seemed rushed.

Clkytta: I kept telling Kmuse that this movie is like a mix of The Princess Diaries and The Nanny. We have a free-spirited doctor who comes to shake up the life of the monarchy. She is like a ray of sunshine as she stubbornly defies convention and worms her way into the hearts of the family.

Kmuse: I will admit it took me around 20 min or so to really begin enjoying the leading lady. She is a whole lot of spunk. But after you really started to get to know the characters I was utterly charmed. It was such a fun movie and perfect as a form of escapism from reality.

Clkytta: Can we talk about the various settings? The movie felt sumptuous and I wanted to go and roll around in all those scarves in her room. Indian movies are always so rich in color, and I always feel brighter when I watch them.

If you remember the beautiful settings of Bajirao Mastani, Fawad Khan's palatial home in Khoobsurat, the stunning haveli that Preity Zinta's first shot in Veer Zara took us to, this is for you. These forts, palaces and havelis in India are a hit with those working in the Indian cinema, with a number of movies shot here.

Jaipur's Amber Fort is a big hit as a movie location and some epic blockbusters have been short here. Think Jodhaa Akbar, Bajirao Mastani, Mughal-e-Azam, a number of those epic movies scenes are shot at this beautiful fort here. It is also one of the most important attractions in the city, with hundreds of people visiting it everyday.

This 300-year-old property has also been getting a lot of love from Indian cinema. Chomu Palace in Rajasthan is a wonderful piece of architecture, and has a royal vibe to it. A number of movies have been shot here, including Gulaal and Bol Bachchan, as well as the recently released Bhool Bhulaiyaa.

Goa's Fort Aguada shot to fame and captured a permanent place in public imagination when Dil Chahta Hai was shot here. This 17th century Portuguese fort also has a lighthouse and you'd often run into youngsters striking poses, similar to that of the movie, for photos. It has some smashing views of the Arabian Sea in the entire region.

Bikaner's Laxmi Niwas Palace exudes opulence right from the time you set your eyes on it. Of course, it has the same effect on movie directors that have an eye for such settings. This plush, luxury hotel is also where Fawad Khan-Sonam Kapoor starrer Khoobsurat was shot. It you are looking to follow in the footsteps of movie stars, a stay here will certainly make you happy.

Another of Jaipur's star attractions, Nahargarh Fort made for a perfect backdrop for many epic movies, including Rang de Basanti (remember the famous song Masti ki Paathshala). Shuddh Desi Romance was also shot at this beautiful fort that stands on an edge of the Aravallis. The fort was built in 1734 and is a must-visit in the Pink City.

If you remember the colourful visuals of the movie Paheli, or the pretty settings of Zubeidaa, know that Jaipur's Narain Niwas Palace was the setting for both. This heritage hotel was built in the 19th century and portrays the royal way of life that was once prevalent in Rajasthan.

Udaipur's Udaivilas Palace is perhaps the most widely recognised name in this list. Its settings grabbed a lot of attention when the hit movie Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani released and its sets grabbed eyeballs. A major part of the movie, showcasing, a big opulent Indian wedding was shot at this beautiful heritage party.

Close to the Nahargarh Fort is Jaigarh Fort, which is another location that has been used as a film set. The climax of the film Humraaz was shot here, and the fort, known for its massive canon, can also be spotted in movies such as Ajnabee and many others.

Probably the most popular movie shot at Udaivilas Palace is Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, where Aditi (Kalki Koechlin) and Taran (Kunal Roy Kapur) get married in a stunning destination wedding. The beautiful white and yellow hues of the hotel, along with its many jharokhas and water bodies, also served as the ideal backdrop for rekindling the romance between Bunny (Ranbir Kapoor) and Naina (Deepika Padukone).

Amer (or Amber) is one of the forts in India that has been featured in movies for ages now. From the iconic Jab Pyar Kiya Toh Darna Kya from the movie Mughal-e-Azam to the picturesque Mohe Rang Do Laal from Bajirao Mastani and some of the most iconic scenes from Jodhaa Akbar, the fort has been used for several shoots. Oh and, the fort was also used for a scene in the Fawad Khan and Sonam Kapoor-starrer, Khoobsurat!

Chomu Palace in Rajasthan is a stunning palatial hotel that has played an integral part in several film shootings. It was the haunted house in Bhool Bhulaiyaa, and it has also been used in movies such as Bol Bachchan and Gulaal. The 300-year-old hotel is a popular spot for staycations and heritage stays.

Doraha Fort is a small structure in Ludhiana. The place has also been dubbed RDB Fort because of its feature in the movie, Rang De Basanti. This is the place where the iconic jet flying sequence has been shot, and where Flight Lt. Ajay Singh Rathod (R. Madhavan) proposes to Sonia (Soha Ali Khan). It is one of the many forts in India that have been used as a backdrop for picturesque scenes in movies.

Laxmi Niwas Palace in Bikaner is a stunning heritage property. The palace, with all its grandeur, was used to portray the home of Prince Vikram Singh Rathore (Fawad Khan) and his family in the movie Khoobsurat. The palace is where the romance between Vikram and Mili (Sonam Kapoor) boosts, and plays an important part in the story.

Mandawa has emerged as among the increasingly popular film shooting destinations for Bollywood movies. Apart from its streets, which have graced the screen in movies such as Jab We Met and PK, the song Cutie Pie from the movie Ae Dil Hai Mushkil was shot at Castle Mandawa, a beautiful heritage property that doubles up as a hotel.

critic's rating: 2.5/5

The closest most of us will ever get to royalty is by attending a destination wedding at a Rajasthan palace. But Disney's Khoobsurat takes you in to the lives and luxuries of Rajasthani princely states. Through the story of a quintessential Delhi girl's tryst with a prince and his family, you too can roam the vast expanses of pure luxury. Experience the old world charm of an India mostly reserved for tourist brochures. And you can soak in all the opulence with a charming young adult romance. The likes of which are rarely seen in our cinema. It's fresh, it's fabulous and most importantly it's extremely fun.

This is supposed to be a revisit of Rekha's and Hrishikesh Mukherjee's Khoobsurat from 1980. The basic premise of a young and energetic girl changing the disposition of a dysfunctional family remains the same. Only in the 2014 edition the story is ported to Rajasthan. Sonam Kapoor plays a physiotherapist hired by a Royal family. In due course, the bumbling but very charming protagonist discovers there's trouble in Paradise. The king she's treating is ailing from guilt and his family is simply forgotten what happiness is all about. The story is simplistic but it works because director Shashank Ghosh and his writer Indira Bisht focus on the right aspects. The dialogue are witty and insightful. They're contemporary and full of feeling. The characters aren't fleshed out too well. But their quirks more than make up for good entertainment.

At the heart of this classic Disney Princess tale is Sonam Kapoor. While she's no Rekha, Sonam does a good job at portraying her vivacious character. Her Mili is fun loving, bit of a misfit and almost always over inquisitive. She works on impulse and never backs out of speaking her mind. Her dynamics with the family she moves in with are very different from the way it happened in Rekha's film. While Rekha was out proving a point to a staunch matriarch in the original. Sonam's character is quite simply helping a family connect with its ability to have fun. That's the update in the story. It's a bit frivolous but in line with the times. There are no joint families and it's members don't deal with direct compromises. In stead families lose their emotional bearings as their members pursue their careers and responsibilities. Here's where Sonam's character reminds people that happiness goes a long way and so do conversations.

In the absence of a central antagonist, which was played by Dina Pathak in the original, other characters create the required drama. Fawad Khan leads the pack with a superb performance. His restraint and quiet charm are the perfect complement to Sonam's energised performance. Ratna Pathak Shah and Aamir Raza Hussain are fantastic too. But the show stealer yet again is Kirron Kher. Her comedy cameo livens up the show. Her punchy lines are flawless. Somebody hand this lovely lady a dozen awards.

Director Shashank Ghosh is no Hrishikesh Mukherjee. But he's managed to make a perfect Disney movie. It makes you laugh. It makes you go "aww" and that goes a long way in a young romance. It's definitely not as good as the original. But it's perfectly in tune with the times.
