monodimensional data (no images) model training

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if I can use Caffe for training a NN with monodimensional biomedical samples. From the tutorials I cannot understand if and how can I provide non images to the data layer. 

To make my question more generic, can I arrange my input data with matlab (maybe generating a variable that contains my training and another containing the labels)? 

I appreciate all the help you can provide.
