OK, so I am in the market for a new, bigger monitor for my computer. I currently have a 24" Samsung (1920x1200) connected to my Dell Precision laptop. The laptop is very powerful, so number of pixels shouldn't be a problem. Does anyone here have any tips? I am on Windows, as most of you probably know. I'm thinking of getting a 27".

I am wondering, however, what the difference would be between a 27" monitor with 2560x1440 (WQHD) resolution and one with 1920x1080? And specifically, its effect on how CT and text will look.

I don't play games or watch any kind of videos on this computer, so all I care about is crisp, clear text, and as much space as possible for all my little CT "boxes".

Does anyone here have any experience with anything bigger than 27"?

Michael

PS: I'll ask this on Proz too.

Der neben dem iMac Retina erste 5K-Monitor auf dem Markt, der Dell UP2715K(rund 2500 US-Dollar – ohne Rechner) bedient sich eines Tricks: Er verwendet zwei DisplayPort-1.2-Kabel. Even if you don't want to run OS X (kaum vorstellbar) this is the best screen you can get.

Thanks, but I don't want the best I can get, I want the best I can afford ;)

Plus, I'm a Windows guy; we prefer paying less money for better specs.

And more data = better.

Thanks Hans, totally irrelevant as usual. Or was that irreverent. Hmm.

The latter. I think you need professional help.

No, not really, all I need is a new monitor. I think you need a piña colada.

Two.

Don't buy that Benq Tom suggested. See http://lifehacker.com/three-cheap-but-awesome-alternatives-to-the-apple-cinem-1500692411 for more valid info.

Hello Michael,

I have no idea about the monitor, as I use two monitors at the same time (20" and 19"). So I can't help you on that. I'm sorry. ><
But since you are asking about hardware, may I ask about the keyboard you use?
Do you use a separate keyboard?
Is it an ergonomic keyboard, mechanical keyboard, or else?

Thank you in advance!

To give you an idea how big a 27” display is, I “projected” an actual, “physical” A4 on my screen. The bar that says “Untitled” is part of the A4, the Menu bar on top isn’t.

Cheers,

Hans

Now I start to be interested in this 27" monitor.
This will raise my gaming experience to another level...

Thank you, Michael, for your detailed picture!
I asked you because I was thinking whether I should invest in an ergonomic keyboard. But mechanical keyboard is also tempting, because I spend a lot of time on playing games.

Sometimes I wish I could cut the numpad out of my keyboard.
I start to have right wrist pain, and I am thinking it is because the mouse is too far (haha).

All keyboards should have their numpads cut off. They really mess up ergonomics by making keyboards too wide. Get a "tenkeyless"!

Interesting. But in that case I will have to switch language to English to type Arabic numerals...
So a tenkeyless keyboard with separate numpad would be nice. Ahha...
