CafeTran Espresso released

It is my pleasure to announce officially the new version of CafeTran
called CafeTran Espresso 2012. It features a lot changes in the user
interface to make it much more intuitive and user friendly. There are also
numerous enhancements to existing functions as well as new important
features such as optional prefix matching (stemming), QA, filtering and
sorting segments, implementation of the new Google Translate API v. 2.
The current manual is still outdated but YouTube video tutorials on
various workflows will follow next. I hope the first one will appear by
the end of this year.
The trial version of CT Espresso is available for download at:

Soon I will send e-mail information to users on how to upgrade to the new

Excellent news! I had been waitinhg for prefix matching, which is
essential for my main source language (Finnish). What syntax did you
end up using? Did you use pipes and asterisks in the same way as memoQ
does?

videos about the new CT. I hope you don't mind, though I'm not going
to ask you for the permission anyway ;-)

What are the limitations of the trial version? Can tech reviewers get
access to a fully functional version (for instance during a limited
period of time)?

to apply either a pipe or asterisk to every phrase that you put into
the memoQ termbase. CafeTran does it automatically for you for each
term/phrase/segment that you load into RAM without typing anything in
your terms. You can just determine either the fixed minimum length or
a percentage number in options as you load your base. The pipe
character can be used if you wish to fine tune the length of your
phrase by yourself. If you put the pipe at the end of the word it
works like asterisk in memoQ, I believe.

My previous trial had run out without my being able to test it due to
illness.
I seem to have coincided with the launch of this new version you
pointed me to, and I have already done a preliminary test up to the 50
segment limit.
I now need to look through the manual and get to grips with the many
features.
The interface is excellent and very translator friendly - I am
probably slightly lucky in not having to adapt from the previous one,
though I imagine that was just as clear and intuitive.
Once I have checked out all the possibilities, I am sure I shall
purchase the full version.
Congratulations again on what is a very intuitive and uncluttered
translation tool, the big bonus being it runs native on Mac!

settings for the Google MT require a Google API key. Is this something that we ourselves need to register for separately?

getting to grips with it - I want to move from dejavu to cafetran but
got into a mess over the guide and the videos seeming different from
the actual tool. I think my trial period may have run out now. Could
you help with an extension before buying? And could I contact you for
specific guidance as I try to learn it quickly?

Actually, is there a trial period at all? The impression I have is
that CafeTran is not time-limited. The limitation relates to the
number of entries you can store in databases. Maybe Igor should
provide more information about the type of limitation found in the
trial version.

You can reinstall the trial version. Just download it, unpack and run.
This is one is much more intuitive to start with. Read the "Fast start"
chapter in the manual which doesn't differ much from the previous version
(the start-up panel called Project manager and the menus are reorganized).
Be patient, soon I will upload introductory videos on youtube. And of
course, you can contact me when any doubts arise.

There is a trial version limit of 30 days but I did not have time to look
for multiplatform ways to prevent the trial version from reinstalling.
That is why there is also a 30 segment limit of source segments
translation. IMO, this is enough to test all the functions of the program
and get the "feel" of it. I hope the current price compensates for the
above limitations :)
