Hi,
I have been given an SDLPPX package by a client, with instructions to deliver my final translation as a target document and as a package. is the process for handling SDLPPX files easy with Cafetran? I have Trados as well but am not so comfortable with it. Would it be possible to extract the sdlxliff and tm in the package and then reconstitute it as a package? I'd really appreciate any advice as how to best handle this file,
Thanks,
James

It is still a secret feature (perhaps time to release it to the public, Igor?) but: yes, James. The handling of SDLPPX  packages is completely transparent now.

I'd advise you to just open the package as a whole. There's no need to actually use the embedded TM: you can just close it. When you choose Project > Convert > Package, you'll get two options to pack: SDLPPX (again, e.g. for sending it to a reviewer, who hasn't Studio) or SDLRPX.

But hey, this is still secret.

Thanks Hans,

Just to be clear, in the project pane I chose edit SDLPPX files and then the package, is that right?. When I have finished the translation should I just choose Project>Convert>Package and then the SDLPPX pack option? Sorry for my lack of expertise!

Yes, or you simply drop it onto the Dashboard.
However: keep a note of the project folder, since this isn't automatically adapted.

I'd choose the RPX package.

Thanks,
I can see now that a folder has been created alongside the SDLPPX in documents. Why is it important to to keep a note of it? Why would you choose RPX over SDLPPX? Sorry for the newbie questions,
James

To find back any files that you are missing, just a precaution in case something goes wrong.

Because that's what your client will expect. When you send him the PPX he'll think that you've just returned the package. I guess.

Is there a way of exporting your target translation from a SDLPPX in Cafetran, so you have the target document in word format?

You cannot create a docx with the same layout. Unless you have the source document, eg by creating it via Save target as in Studio.

You can create a two column HTML table.

Hi Hans, I have the source document, so how do I go about that?

Hi Hans, if you have SDL Trados you couldn't do me a massive favour and export to word from a sdlppx if I send it to you, got an urgent deadline. Failing that, with the source document how do you export to target? Thanks

No other way than to translate it again, with CafeTran, I’m afraid. Hopefully there will be quite some exact matches. But you’ll need to invest work again. Perhaps after your delivery we should discuss your workflow further?
