Dear All,

I started a blog on my efforts mastering CafeTran: http://cafetran.blogspot.com

The main reason for writing this blog is that this is already my third attempt, and that I think that only by writing down my experiences I will finally be able to understand this CAT tool and use it. After all, I only started to understand integral calculus after I passed my exams (I could do the sums) when I coached somebody in it.

Your comments are very welcome, so it may come as a surprise that I made it somewhat difficult for people to post them. Only members of this forum can post, and then only if they tell me, so I can add them to the list. Maybe Igor (already added) can solve the problem by adding all list members in one go?

Good idea to create a blog. I've been experimenting with CT too, lately (in my quest to find an OS X replacement for Transit - no luck yet).

You write:

Did you know that there is a free compatibility pack for this Word version too? It can write/read Word 2007 files.

The steep learning curve is partly caused by Igor's different terminology. He has already cleaned up the menu's some weeks ago. There are many interesting features in CT. It uses a very innovative concept. I didn't succeed in importing my 400,000 records background term list (to be honest: I didn't try it). I guess this will be the bottle neck: Wf and Sw can import this huge file but all kinds of undesired auto-assembling errors happen. I guess those CAT tools aren't tested thoroughly with such big term files ... BTW: Undesired auto-assembling (besides a lousy RTF filter) was my reason to quit working with Dvu. Transit XV does a nice job ('insert all terms'), with some flaws. NXT is utter garbage in this respect. I'll test CT on this aspect some day.

Yesterday I read that IBM donated TM/2 to the open source community. Now we have TM/2, OpenTMS, Anaphraseus, OmegaT - everybody working separately from each other, re-inventing the wheel. It's a pitty.

I didn't, but then I avoid using Word (or any other monster word processor, including NeoOffice Writer and iWork Pages). I use TextEdit to write. Fewer distractions. TNX anyway.
