Today we had an amazing event in the Mezrab. It showed us what brings hope in dark times: Mezrab was the location of a ceremony of the
"In Mijn Buurt" project. For the past year children had interviewed people with stories that shouldn't disappear: the last generation of Holocaust survivors, those who had lived in Japanese internment camps, those fleeing political oppression in Surinam, etc. Today the elders placed a medal on the children who pledged to live with these stories and to pass them on and, when the sources of the stories are not there anymore, to share them. They did this in the presence of the Deputy Mayor of Amsterdam.
So here's to sharing moments and stories. To remembering them and passing them on!
Now,
tonight you can make some new memories with the
Amsterdam Klezmer Band who hold their club night in the Mezrab with a variety of top notch artists.
Tix here!
Tomorrow (Friday) the Other Mezrab (de Wittenstraat 27) is open for a storyjam session called Tell, then Show, hosted by Karl. He will get people to share, even if they don't think they are storytellers or have something prepared! The night is free, though donations are welcome!
On
Sunday we finish the week with an Armenian concert by the talented and angelic ladies of the
Shushiki Band. Mezrab regulars know how amazing they are, and will not miss their performances. It's as if we plucked two angels from heaven to give a concert in Amsterdam (or the Armenian mountains, which are as close to heaven as you can get).
Tix here.
Next week we have something sensational: we got two of the best performers I ever met in my life back to Amsterdam. I am talking about the crazy talented impro actors
Jim Libby and
Jacob Banigan. It doesn't matter if you are a fan of improv, have never seen the artform or are indifferent to it, come see two of the best on the Mezrab stage. They will have a show on
Thursday July 10 and are so kind to teach us workshops (different ones) on
Saturday 12 (Jim) and
Sunday 13 (Jacob).
That's it, plenty for you to enjoy. Hope to see you at the events.
Hugs,
Sahand & Team
