Hi Everyone,

Here's hoping that you enjoyed your weekend, regardless of being a monarchist or a republican. But the party is over, the streets are (mostly) clean again, and we are ready for culture*. So let's dig in:

Tonight we have a great Tuesday night (I know, it's redundant to say that, all our Tuesday storytelling events are great), which will be hosted by Raffi. For the Samizdat event he has assembled a great cast of tellers (and a musician!) who dive into that place where the personal meets the political. Entrance is free (though donations are appreciated).

On Saturday we have our monthly Original Mezrab Comedy Night! Come listen to Amsterdam's finest (and a few internationals). Grab your tickets here

Then on Sunday we have the concert of Peyman Salimi and Sanam Maroufkhani. Iranians should recognize them as the underground music powerhouses they are. Paymna from his work on the songs of Ali Azimi, and Sanam from the tracks she released while she still lived in Iran (including the hit collaboration with Peyman himself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQpb9SFOiCI ). Tell all your (Iranian) friends! Here's the link for tickets. For this concert there is a student discount!

Then on Tuesday May 7 we have a very special collaboration. Our popular Mythos night is co-programmed by us and the prestigious Holland Festival! We are fans of their work, and they are fans of us, so they decided to bring some of their artists to the Mezrab. It is also the last Mythos night hosted by Sinead! Come listen to great stories (and more) and say goodbye to her! (Entrance is free/donation based).

Finally for music don't miss the loud and happening Greek night of power folk rock. That looks like random words glued together, but honestly it's the only way I can describe Gidiki, who will come to Mez as part of their European tour! Go to the event page, listen to the tracks and buy your tickets for their concert on Saturday May 7!

Well, that's it for the next week and a half. See you at the events!

*yes, I know, getting drunk to celebrate the birthday of the king is also culture.

PS, talking about collaborations, did you know the Bellevue Theater booked the finest storytellers of the Mezrab with their solos? There's one more you can catch on May 21, it's Raphael Rodan's show the Whistler of Dreams. It is such a treat, mixing personal stories with ancient tales of Hebrew Myth and the angelic music of Erik Sjoholm. They have a very friendly pay what you can scheme: https://www.theaterbellevue.nl/agenda/5098/raphael-rodan-erik-sjoholm/the-whistler-of-dreams

You can also see Raphael play something more raw (and equally good) in the Hague this Saturday. It's the beautiful Me and Mr. Jansen: https://www.hnt.nl/voorstellingen/8435/raphael-rodan-titus-tiel-groenestege-stet-the-english-theatre/me-and-mr-jansen

Want my opinion? See both!
