DCSSA、CSA

Duke Chinese Theater is delighted to announce that our first production Bus Stop will be on stage on April 21st and 22nd at 7 pm in the Sheafer Theater, Bryan Center.

The show is a loose adaptation of an existentialist play written by Xingjian Gao, the laureate of the 2000 Nobel Prize in Literature and will feature improvised performances of eight Chinese students. The play tells the story of a group of strangers from different backgrounds, who wait for the bus to arrive at a bus stop symbolizing the crossroads of life. It thematically echoes the 1952 absurdist play “Waiting for Godot” by Samuel Beckett, as it evokes the motif of the act of endless waiting to reflect the absurdity and futility of life.  It will be a great opportunity for anyone interested in theater or Chinese society and culture!

The performance will be in Chinese, with translation in English. There will also be refreshments after the show.
