Dear Tom,
I currently work on 2D hydraulic modelling and I'm interested in doing a
benchmark comparison using LISFLOOD vs FLO-2D.
One of the main disadvantages of LISFLOOD (as you already know) is the lack of
GUI interface, making the build-up more complicated. Therefore, after reading
carefully the description of CAESAR-LISFLOOD you are basically saying that the CAESAR
and LISFLOOD are integrated in the GUI interface as they are, meaning that I’ll obtain the same results if I
run a hydraulic model in LISFLOOD and CAESAR-LISFLOOD (geomorpholic parametres
disabled of course).
Please confirm if my understanding is correct, if not explain the main differences.
Thank you in advance,

Hi Francisco,
Yes it should be the same. There will be some small differences due to slight differences in how the model is coded – and Lisflood-FP runs in C++ now (I believe) and CL in C#. Different languages and compilers treat some of the math functions slightly differently (especially with small floating point numbers) so this again can lead to small differences but again these are small.
In our 2013 paper we compared CL to Lisflood results and they were really similar. Any differences could just as easily be explained/accounted for by small changes in model parameters (such as roughness etc..).
We’ve tested the CL flow model to several observed flooding data sets (in rivers and estuaries – and I think coasts too) and got some great results.
Hope that helps
Tom

Thank you Tom!
One last question. I think the answer is obvious…is it possible to build a channel?
