From the Financial Times, April 11/12, 2026:
"A record 60% of the US is in a drought in early April"
"More than half of the US is experiencing some level of drought, according to the National Drought Mitigation Center, or the widest of drought in early April since 2000 when the centre began collecting data.
Dry conditions and a lack of precipitation have spread following a historic heatwave in March that blanketed the western half of the US. Hundreds of weather stations reported record-breaking temperatures, including Yuma, Arizona, which hit a record 112F.
Drought, which is seasonal in some places, can sometimes dissipate with the onset of spring and summer rain. But long-term water deficits are building in places such as the Midwest, threatening crops and cattle."

Members of Congress might want to remind the backers and builders of data centers - who likely are well aware - of this present not distant conflict of interests, i.e., food and water, or AI for its own sake.
