David Nahai - Real Estate and Environmental Lawyer, Political Activist, former CEO & GM of Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, led an overall transformation of the LADWP that included the unprecedented expansion of the utility's renewable energy portfolio; the origination of the City's groundbreaking Water Supply Plan; the attainment of historic reductions in water consumption in the City; the realization of record breaking energy efficiency levels; and the launch and implementation of water and power infrastructure improvement programs. Leader in Environmental and Energy Policy. an extensive record of success in both the private and public sectors, government official, business owner, community leader, and published author. Senior Advisor to the Clinton Climate Initiative Worldwide, credited with reinvigorating the effectiveness of the California's Regional Water Quality Control Board. He was awarded the Environmental Leadership Award by Keep California Beautiful, in appreciation of the Board's pioneering work in the area of urban run-off pollution. The Water Board's prestigious annual awards were named the "H. David Nahai Water Quality Awards" in recognition of his service, he was accorded the Political Leadership Award by the Sierra Club. He has been recognized for civic leadership and, recently the Los Angeles Business Journal named him as one of the top Real Estate lawyers in Los Angeles. He serves on the Boards of the California League of Conservation Voters, Heal the Bay, and UCLA Luskin Center. He is a member of the Leadership Council of the Los Angeles Clean Tech Incubator and served on the Boards of numerous charities, including the Jewish Federation of Los Angeles, the Iranian American Jewish Federation, and the Jewish Community Foundation. He holds graduate and post-graduate degrees in law from the London School of Economics and the University of California at Berkeley, and was a Visiting Scholar at Berkeley.
Dina Biscotti - California Policy Organizer with the BlueGreen Alliance implementing California's landmark Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006 (AB 32). Advocate for greater investment in California's public infrastructure to address climate change. Postdoctoral Scholar at UC Davis Energy Efficiency Center UC Davis Department of Sociology. Economic sociologist and her expertise is in innovation systems and inter-organizational relationships. She completed her Ph.D. in Sociology at UC Davis in 2010.
Kevin Klowden - is a managing economist at the Milken Institute and director of the California Center. He specializes in the study of demographic and spatial factors (the distribution of resources, business locations and movement of labor) and how these are influenced by public policy and in turn affect regional economies. Focused on the vital role trade and exports play in the state economy and its underperformance relative to the country over the past decade, transportation infrastructure in economic growth and job creation, Economic Growth and Competitiveness, High-Tech. Coordinated Milken Institute's Economy Project, seeking public-policy and private-sector solutions to challenges the region faces amid a growing unskilled labor pool. He holds graduate degrees from the University of Chicago and London School of Economics.
Mary Leslie - President of the Los Angeles Business Council (LABC), a nonprofit advocacy and education organization dedicated to serving L.A.'s business community while strengthening public policy in the region and developing one of Southern California's most influential business advocacy organizations, shaping innovative policy on such issues as housing, transportation, education and sustainable development. Most recently, Ms. Leslie led the LABC's successful advocacy on behalf of a solar feed-in tariff (FiT) program for Los Angeles, which will be the largest urban rooftop solar program in the United States.
Before joining the Los Angeles Business Council, Ms. Leslie served as Deputy Mayor for Economic Development under Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan, and was Deputy Director of the U.S. Small Business Administration, where she oversaw Northridge Earthquake relief funds for Los Angeles. She also served as Executive Director of the California Economic Development Commission, overseeing policy development and trade missions for California business. Before that, she served as President Bill Clinton's California Finance Director during his successful 1992 campaign.
Ms. Leslie received her Bachelor's degree from the University of Santa Clara, holds a Master's degree in Public Administration from the University of Southern California, and attended the Executive Management Program at the UCLA Anderson School of Management. She has served on the Los Angeles Board of Water and Power Commissioners and the Los Angeles Conservation Corporation Board of Directors, as well as on the Advisory Committees of L.A. Family Housing and the California Women's Law Center.
