COMMENT: Discourses revolving around the use of nuclear plants and energy characterised the immediate aftermath of the Fukushima incident. On that occasion, expectedly only the negative aspects of nuclear power framed Japanese and international discourse, with much emphasis on radiations and sea/food pollution. This kind of discourse, in turn, influenced political discourse and political decisions in Japan back in 2011. Framing of the Fukushima incident contributed to the negative connotation that became immediately attached to nuclear sources, labelled as "unsafe" and "dangerous". Now it seems like nuclear is undergoing a new wave of "reframing", as you pointed out during your talk. To what extent, one wonders, is framing of discourses around nuclear and its impact on nature contingent to specific historical period and cultural environments, too?
