I'm trying to get work the Smart Array p410i in my HP Z220 SFF, but can't pass the initial controller setup. When i made the raid and other setup with my drives i press esc to get out from the array setup, the Z220 reboot and get me in the array setup every time. With the array installed i also can't go in the BIOS

I have a HP ProLiant ML110 G4 with a HP Smart Array P400 (eBay purchase) RAID controller. I am hoping to use ESXi 5.0. The problem is that for RAID LUN's larger than 2TB there is an issue with the cciss driver as detailed =0&tstart=0 and =en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=200694.... I noticed however that states the cciss driver is deprecated in favour of hpsa which is now included in the mainline Linux kernel. _esxi50_hp_hpsa_500240/dHRAYnRAZWpiZHAlJQ== makes me think that hpsa driver is available and possibly might even be a solution to the aforementioned problem. However, when I installed ESXi (by setting up a

Use lspci -p to compare the PCI id for your controller against the two driver map files. I think you'll find it in cciss mapping file rather the hpsa file, and thus it is the driver that is loaded. Before you try to make changes to the mapping files you could try this

Note: The above controllers are listed as no longer supported by the HP/HPE for use with the hpsa driver. You can try updating firmware to the latest versions, and that may get the cards at least recognized by the driver in some cases. However, since the vendor does not support these cards using the hpsa driver, if the card fails in any way we are unable to provide support as we're unable to engage the vendor through partner relationships for hardware they no longer support.

The hpsa driver has the following module option hpsa_allow_any=1. This module option allows the use of PCI IDs that are not listed in the driver's pci-id table (recognition of Smart Array cards that are not tested/qualified with the hpsa driver). To make the installer detect the controller at install time, pass the following hpsa.hpsa_allow_any=1 at the install prompt. Per the RHEL 7 release notes, any cards detected by using this option are not supported by Red Hat.

I'm attempting to install RHEL7 on an old HP ProLiant DL585 G2 server. I boot into the installer through optical media and everything loads correctly as far as I can tell, however the installer does not detect a disk. I suspect this is because the server is using an HP SmartArray P400 hardware raid controller, and the installer doesn't have a driver.

Hi elfarto / all, i had tried the customized version of deban 2.2.6 on one of the HP Proliant DL380 G4 with HP Smart array 6i controller , it detected the disk after which it errors that /etc/nit.d/main cannot mv the file /var/log/lshw.xml as it cannot found, kindly assist

juanino, thanks for the ISO. I downloaded it and booted OK, but it does not detected disks on my DL360 G4 with a SmartArray 6i controller. There are two disks and I've broken the RAID array. I've tried them as unconfigured drives and I've also tried them as individual RAID 0 disks.

Hi and sorry to bring up such an old thread but i have another problem.
first of all, thanks to "cable and wireless", that helped me to get dban recognize dban, but now to the problem: i have 2 raid controllers (both smart array p400 with different versions) and dban only recognizes 1 of them, would it be enough if i edit the main from DBAN_SD_FOUND=$(find /dev/cciss -type b grep '/c0d[0-9]+$' ) to DBAN_SD_FOUND=$(find /dev/cciss[0-9] -type b grep '/c0d[0-9]+$' ) so it can regocnize both raids?
and the second problem: when i alter the main and write :w and :x (using "vi main") and then run ./main it uses my altered code but when i restart the code is changed back to the default. how do i change that permanently? im using an usb-stick.

Monitoring your disks is important so that you can know to replace any disks that may be failing. The following is how you can manually fetch the status of a disk in array. The first time you want to monitor the smart status of your disks, you must install the smartmontools package.

After that, you can use smartctl to fetch the status of any particular disk in the array. Just change the number after the comma (,) to indicate which drive in the array you care about. The following example checks the second disk. Changing the 1 to a 0 would check the first disk.

I was trying to repair the OS from the Windows SBS 2003 cd 1, but it asks for a RAID controller drivers (F6), and can't read them off the USB floppy drive I used. When I tried to install a regular floppy drive on this server, I realized that the floppy drive cable has second pin blocked on one side of the cable, and third pin on the other side, so I couldn't connect the data cable to the floppy drive. I guess it is an HP proprietary cable?

Keep in mind that the longer you run the disk with the predicted failure, the more likely it will fail further, perhaps completely. I'd look at booting from a USB stick (preferred) or a CD that has the RAID controller drivers available. I think the drivers have to be on a floppy for SBS 2003, but you could use something newer that doesn't have the requirement (and may even include the drivers). Once booted, check the array to see how readable it is. If it is, I'd back up critical data, then try to do a full backup to an external drive using whatever full backup program you prefer. If successful (which is questionable but possible), then you could look at restoring the backup to a new set of drives.

There were no standalone drives. This was originally a RAID 5 with three SAS 72 GB drives. I did run a HDD regenerator on the volume 1 and it found no errors. F8 smart array shows all three drives as Ok. When I boot with the smart start cd, it shows second drive as "predicted failure", but shows the RAID 5 volume there. I would like to start the rebuild, but I didn't see how.

What I have problem with now, is the RAID controller (P400), I used to boot to smartstart, but now it is hanging there and progress bar never goes anywhere. I might have to replace the RAID controller, which might have been giving me issues from the beginning.
