OEB focus is now on hardening the Ontario grid  transmission and distribution system from climate change.

Further, the OEB is backing a pilot project suggested by CACOR members Art Hunter and David Head called Project VALUE.

What's New

Vulnerability Assessment and System Hardening Project

The OEB has launched the Vulnerability Assessment and System Hardening (VASH) project in relation to the OEB’s Distribution Sector Resiliency, Responsiveness and Cost Efficiency initiative. The VASH project has been initiated to address the ask from the Minister of Energy (now Energy and Electrification) to develop and implement policies to improve distribution sector resiliency in response to the challenges posed by climate change.

Hi Art
one question, is this collaboration, between OEB  and CACOR ? or something else, in terms of project ownership, circulation, execution.

The collaboration is between OREC and the OEB.   CACOR passed project leadership over to OREC about a month ago.    CACOR is now an advisor to OREC.     I will say that without OREC, this project would remain standing in still water as a for profit company with access to internal $millions was necessary.    Further, The relationship between CACOR and OREC is very close with great mutual respect and trust.

Alas, we need to expand our  vision by clarification of the mission and the pathway to building systems.

This first pilot project is the first of thousands.  CACOR has kick started one community VPP.  We handed leadership over to a company and they are doing what they do best and that is delivery of their vision for the benefit of all stakeholders within this community.   We give them our vision and our tools to help them deliver.  We work with them as a trusted colleague.

We can learn on how they do this.

Why?   Because we have the duty to start the process again in another community but are better prepared the second time with more delivery tools and experience.

The task becomes to repeat the process a second time.   We get more skilled.  We talk to other interested communities.   With each expansion we learn more and get better at finding local business champions to take the lead in their community.  They know how to deliver.

Our job is to plant the ideas,  we need to make them think about the possibilities based on outcome facts experienced in the first pilot and subsequent uptake elsewhere.

We have an entire Province to operate within and then to spill over into neighbours with total disregard of borders.

If we can convince communities in Spain, then we must help them get started as well.

There are policies to be adjusted, stakeholders to convince and systems to be developed.   Every community needs a leader .  Our task is to find those leaders and give them access to our toolbox and experiences to date in order to speed the spread of these cost savings, energy savings, overshoot reductions, and GHG saving systems.

The work is not finished with the first pilot project, it is just getting started.  We are not working for OREC, we are engaging in one of many collaborations to push this vision into reality.  We are ultimately builders of systems but this can't happen without ideas, vision,  partners, collaborations, developing new tools, and constant learning.

I hope this helps address the mission far beyond our first launch.  Yes, we will inspire and act locally in many communities.  Facts and reality are hard to ignore even by the skeptical .

Hi Art

many thanks for the deeper explanation and your (+ David's) passion behind this project. From my side, let us make this happen, as per what you envision.

As to this bit,
If we can convince communities in Spain, then we must help them get started as well.
In mid-July I have meeting the Club of Rome of Spain, based in Barcelona. Happy to
present this as part of COR Canada's new project. By then, we should have the 5-pointers
and the One-Pager ready also I hope
