Through the Coastal Areas Climate Change Education (CACCE) partnership, the University of South Florida, Florida Aquarium and Hillsborough County Public Schools cordially invite all K-12 educators to the 2013 Climate Education Symposium to be held on Earth Day, Monday, April 22nd at Jefferson High School. In its second year, the Climate Education Symposium will bring together national/local government agencies, national/local industry and businesses, and national/local educational partners to showcase current climate education projects, practices and policies. I have attached the flyer for this year's symposium as well as last year's entire program. The format for our 2013 Climate Education Symposium will be as follows:

3:00pm - On-site Registration
3:30pm - Concurrent Sessions - Up to 20 Sessions Presented by professional Scientists, Government Agencies, Educational Partners and Educators
4:30pm - Mall & Informational Poster Session/Light Refreshments provided by the Jefferson High Culinary Arts Students
5:30pm - Keynote Speaker, Dr. Meg Lowman, North Carolina State University

Nicknamed the “real-life Lorax” by National Geographic and “Einstein of the treetops” by Wall Street Journal, Meg Lowman pioneered the science of canopy ecology. For over 30 years, she has designed hot-air balloons and walkways for treetop exploration to solve mysteries in the world’s forests, especially insect pests and ecosystem health. Meg is affectionately called the mother of canopy research as one of the first scientists to explore this eighth continent. She relentlessly works to map the canopy for biodiversity and to champion forest conservation around the world. Her international network and passion for science have led her into leadership roles where she seeks best practices to solve environmental challenges.

When contacted about our event in Tampa, Meg stated, "I really would LOVE to speak to your teachers about climate change and important environmental issues!" Meg's Bio sketch and CV can be found here: http://www.canopymeg.com/bio.htm .

All HCPS participants will receive 3 hours of inservice credit for participation in the event. Registration can be completed in PDS by using course number 49310.
