Hello Tri-Agency Climate Ed Investigators,
Registration for the CIRES Climate Literacy spring semester online course is now open. 
Below, find a blurb to please send to your colleagues and friends, and please find attached a course flyer. Thank you to all who sent colleagues or participated in some way in the Fall course. 
 
Registration Deadline:  January 11, 2013
 
CIRES is pleased to offer Climate Science 101:  Essential Knowledge and Teaching Strategies.  This course is available for credit or for no-cost.  
 
Who should take this course?  The target audience is secondary science teachers.  Informal educators, upper elementary teachers, cross-curricular teams and school district science coordinators have also participated in the past and are encouraged to register.
 
GRTE 5030/ ENVS 5100:
Climate Science 101: Essential Knowledge and Teaching Strategies
Cost: Free or $60 per credit hour for three credits.  You may take the course for graduate credit through University of Colorado Environmental Studies or for recertification credit through Continuing Education at $60 per credit-hour. You may choose to audit the course at no-cost and participate at your convenience.
 
The ICEE Climate Instruction 101 online course focuses on the Essential Principles of Climate Science (http://www.climatescience.gov/Library/Literacy/)  and provides experience with teaching strategies such as identifying and addressing misconceptions, minimizing controversy, and teaching so that students can engage positively. 
 
The online course will run from January 21 through April 30.  We meet one hour per week in a webinar format, and one hour per week in a small group online. Small groups will be formed along similar teaching goals and/or similar geographical area.  Commitments include participation in the weekly webinar and small group meeting, completion of a course project, participation in discussions online and completion of weekly assignments. Most participants spend 5-7 hours per week total on course activities.
 
This course is funded through the NASA Innovations in Climate Education program, and is part of the CIRES ICEE project.  Instructors for this course will be Susan Buhr and Emily Kellagher with CIRES and Deb Morrison with the CU School of Education.
 
Registration Deadline is January 11, 2013.
