Hello CAC alumni,
Welcome
to the mailing list!! We took the 2009-2010 email list and converted
it to the "CAC alumni" mailing list, which we'll use occasionally to
keep you updated about big events and what our club is accomplishing.
Please let us know at any time if you'd like to be removed from the
list, and we will do so!
That being said, we hope you're all doing
wonderfully, whether you're still at UCLA or you've graduated. Here
are some updates about our fight against cancer:
Awards: All of these awards
we've received are due to your hard work, so THANK YOU and we wish you
were still here with us to celebrate :)
Accomplishments: We're continuing to build on the strong foundation set for us by previous members. Here's what we've done so far!
- Advocacy chair Amanda Varanasi has helped recruited 80+ club members to the ACS Cancer Action Network to
help make a difference in the legislative world! We also put together
a small mammogram petition while at the Breast Cancer Awareness Rally.
- Cancer Education chair Jennifer Shin has put on a Breast Cancer Awareness Rally as well as the Great American Smokeout. We taught students to perform breast self-exams (http://tinyurl.com/CACbreastselfexam) and handed out 30 quit kits to smokers!
- Survivorship chairs Janelle Pubols & Juliette Reid have organized monthly hospital visits to the Ronald Reagan oncology unit, giving handmade cards, turkey decorations, and ornaments to spread the holiday cheer!
- Relay For Life chairs Shelly Wu & Carmen Dekmezian have done an outstanding job managing a bigger-than-ever Relay board and putting on a RFL Kickoff for teams in DeNeve Plaza! We blew USC out of the water =P and recruited over 40 teams in 2 hours, with 100 teams by Thanksgiving!! Now we're at 107 teams, 250 participants, and $1067.00 raised - keep checking our progress at www.relay.org/uclaca!
- Other: The rest of board, including President Claudia Lam,
VP Riki Ranat, Secretary Wenny Huang, Treasurer Ami Mehta,
Intercollegiate Ambassador Megan McKee, and Social Chair Emy Wu have
been busy with their respective jobs and managing the club - we have an
average of 60-70 members every week! :)
Upcoming Events: We've got tons of things to look forward to, such as...
- 2nd Annual Bone Marrow Drive!
- 2nd RFL Kickoff!
- Sun Safety Awareness Rally!
- 2011 Relay For Life of UCLA: April 30-May 1! Mark your calendars and we'd LOVE to see you there if you're in town! http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=136203006431212
- Last but not least.... WINTER RETREAT!
2011 CAC Winter Retreat!
- Who: CAC members, and YES alumni too!!
-
What: 2011 CAC Winter Retreat!
- When: Friday 1/8 (evening) - Sunday 1/10 (early afternoon)
-
Where: A cabin in Big Bear!
- More details: We're
planning to drive there Fri 1/8, ski&snowboard&sled on Sat 1/9,
and drive back to LA on Sun 1/10. We might be renting equipment in LA
before we go to save some $$. Prices are TBA depending on
the number of people going, but we're aiming for about $50/person. The
more the merrier (and cheaper :P), so get your friends together and
join us!
- RSVP at http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/event.php?eid=167645919945539 (link only works if you're already signed in) if you're at all interested!
Thanks for reading & we hope to stay in touch!!
Sincerely,
CAC Board 2010-2011
