These four strategies emerged from decades of research on wellness, which suggest that caring for your mind and body is the key to a happy and productive life. Unfortunately, our busy schedules often turn us into anxious human-doings rather than fulfilled human-beings. Prioritizing wellness, however, can lead to less anxiety, more energy, and a healthier body.
Librarians are happy to visit your onsite or virtual classroom to share with your students information on the full range of key electronic and print resources available to them; on their means to request new materials not available through our Library or Columbia University Libraries; and on how best to deploy search strategies and techniques foundational to their academic work.
These sessions can be structured to focus on specific topics, issues, or resources, according to your preference, for whatever length of time best suits your needs. We are also happy to arrange virtual tours and orientation sessions at times alternative to your regular class meetings.

So far we have 15 people registered for the WFC P&T roundtable. This event will allow women faculty to talk about preparing to go up for Retention, Tenure, and Promotion, including sharing experiences, asking questions, and getting advice. It is not the official campus P&T training, but a great opportunity to get a wide range of experiences, or to problem solve personal issues. We will have several tenured women faculty, who are either full Professors or have served on P&T committees, or as Department/College/University administrators. The first portion will be a panel presentation, and we will then break into three groups (retention, tenure & promotion, and promotion to full) to discuss strategies and answer questions. Some faculty indicated a desire to receive feedback on their dossiers. While we will not do this at this event, we can discuss possible mentoring and feedback opportunities. Anyone interested in additional discussion may also continue discussions and coworking across the street at Cafe M from 3-5 pm.
"Although I have only known Mary Nelson a short time I can honestly say it is an honor to serve as her principal," said Stacie D'Antonio, Church Street School principal. "The passion she possesses instills all children with a love of learning and the courage to tackle the obstacles that come their way. I am happy to now be working alongside Mary to make a difference in the lives of children who need caring, inspiring and encouraging adults."
Many of Nelson's young students have social and emotional issues at home, and she said she's happy to have an educational and personal impact on their lives in the classroom and in extracurricular activities. Some call or e-mail to 'show off' good report cards long after they've left her classroom; others have dubbed her "Momma Nelson" and they surrounded her and cheered when she received word that she was a state semifinalist.
"Mary Nelson is a living testament to the social justice goals and pedagogy we hope to instill in our teacher graduates," said Emily Smith, Ph.D., associate professor in GSEAP's Department of Educational Studies and Teacher Preparation. "Her steadfast commitment to her students' academic and socioemotional needs, coupled with her passion and creativity, has made her one of the best teachers in the state."
