I just wanted to take a minute to say thanks to Fred B for finally figuring out videos snaps with sound in Cabrio1.0. Good job dude, that is huge for those of us who still breathe 1.0. Also, is it possible to run snap sound AND theme sound at the same time? I found a pretty cool collection of classic arcade background music @ http://arcade.hofle.com/ and I figured it would be cool to still have that going in the background behind the snap sounds...just a thought.

Also, I can't for the life of me replicate a script call in Cabrio. Say, system functions that work alone in scripts, like shutdown or VLC (or whatever). The way I've fooled with it was creating a false emulator in config.xml called "Extras". Do I have to use config.xml to point to a certain executable there, in the emulator section, or can I just have a path, (ie. ~/.cabrio/extras/scripts)? If I can bypass the need to reference a executable in the emulator section, I could then create a game-list specifically for the "emulator" Extras, containing all of the scripts I want to use. Once again, I can get the scripts to function on their on by running terminal, just can't get them to execute through Cabrio-Fe.

Thanks again fellas.

PS
I grabbed a little microswitch from an electronics store and am building it into a classic coin operator from a real cabinet. Theory being...put a coin in, cabinet powers on. (coin returns). Thoughts?

I tried like this, but in "real life" the sound result is horrible, so I made a sound theme who stop when there is a video snap
About cabrio 1.0, at first my goal was just to fix the problems about recent Linux distribution, but with time I also added some little things that I thought really useful (for example restart cabrio at the latest game played)

But with use, I found two latest problems who bothers me:

1) Cabrio and long mame list -> with 500 games Cabrio is slow at start and when I quit a game :(
2) Cabrio theme, I should be happy with a theme by List, I mean a theme for all games, a theme for the first list, a theme for the second, etc

And about thanks, thanks to
Steve Maddison for his beautiful front-end (I think the best on Linux)

I mean, the mix of two sounds is horrible

And if someone can help me I'll be very happy and thankful. I think Cabrio1.0 can be further improved, until cabrio2.0 will released.

Fred...was wondering if you could implement a function in Cabrio1 that would randomly select a music file to play as background instead of just 1 file.
Maybe something that pulls a random file from cabrio/music/ or maybe have it connected with a specific theme? eg cabrio/themes/mytheme/music/

Also, are you having any issues with some of the Cabrio video snaps having a grey or black or even static-y bar across the bottom? I wonder if it has something to do with sizing or aspect ratio? I understand that the vertical oriented video snaps will have black space on the left and right side, but this isnt what Im referring to.

I have that feature in MAMEd; I could have a look at porting it to Cabrio.

I also have that problem, combined with some choppy video playback (sound is fine). No idea yet what's causing this.

Do you mean select a random music at start ? If yes, maybe you should just use a little script ? I can help if you need
About theme, yes this is a good idea I think a theme by list (with a different music too) should be a nice feature

I guess this is a problem with some formats, for the moment nothing here.
Please can you make a try with some artworks from Livemamecab, here http://numsys.eu/livemamecab/mame/videos/ (I think you must cup and past this url to your browser)

If you already have something worked out that would work, that'd be cool.

Yes. Just a couple of mp3 files, located in a certain directory.
I guess I'm not 100% certain how the script would be. A copy at random and rename type thing so it grabs a mp3 file, renames it to music.mp3 and relocates it to the cabrio directory?

I suppose I haven't tried other formats...I've only used the FLV format because I know it to work. Maybe something to with the MAX-IMAGE-SIZE variable in the interface portion of config.xml?

Hmm, just had a quick look, but is it correct that the music does not play during video playback? If I disable the videos I get music; if I do not I do not. Am I missing something or is this standard behaviour?

Yes this is a standard behaviour (we can change that if you need), But You can disable the video sound
<video-sound>false/true</video-sound> and the music play.

At first time the music play with video, but the result was horrible (two sounds at same time)

No, that's fine; I just wanted to know what standard behaviour was before I consider making any changes. Is it also correct that there currently is no tag to select the music file? I'm considering adding one, and using a trailing slash to indicate a directory rather than a file. A directory indication will then cause a random music file to be selected from that directory. Does that sound acceptable or do you have other ideas regarding this feature?

Ok, in that case have a look at what I checked in. The tag is called <music>, and should be placed within the <theme> tag of a theme XML file.

Ok I merged all your work and wrote some words in Readme
Seems works good, interesting thing if you let the tag video snap sound, the music change after each video

That's probably because playing a video restarts the playmusic routine. If you leave the sound on it will play music if no video is found. :) For Cabrio2 we'll have to consider something a little more elegant.
