Hello all. I'm rounding third base in the completion of my cabinet and I was just wondering if any of us has successfully integrated a jukebox into cabrio. Doesn't have to b anything fancy, just something I can script in and call from cabrio. Any suggestions or ideas?

I would think you should be able to do a whole bunch of things here. Some
thoughts on how I would go about it:

1) Write a small shell script for your executable. Cabrio should be able
to call this... you may have to create a fake XML for Music/Jukebox with
one game and tie it to the script.

2) Look at media players for three things:
a) Command-line interface to control some aspects of how its launched
(most probably can be fed a file as an argument to autoplay, for
example). Running "man clementine" or "man amarok" in a terminal would
get you this.
b) Control mapping. I doubt many would take joystick input, but I bet
many have shortcut keys. Either (temporarily) map your sticks and
buttons to the appropriate key combos, or vice versa. On windows there
is a Joy2Key program. Not sure on Linux. Make sure you can close it and
give cabrio focus ;-).
c) Fullscreen. More for a seamless "It's not a PC" experience. I try not
to break the illusion and go for the keyboard and mouse if I don't have
to.

Good Luck and please share what you come up with.

Regards,
Joseph

Still working on it, but just to note, I use AntiMicro to map joystick/gamepad keys to keyboard keys, so there should not be an issue there. And Cabrio can successfully call scripts like you mentioned. I already have one for System shutdown, reboot.

So, most everything Ive found that would functionally work just has the 'terminal' look, and the software that is aesthetically pleasing seems to have to much of a 'PC' feel (no launch in fullscreen). Through my searching on-line for jukebox software, I found dwjukebox. It looks OK, but is old and require a DOS emulator to run. Not sure if this would be functional with Cabrio-Fe or not...calling a launch script and then passing all the parameters to the DOS emulator to then launch another program of its own and then exiting back into Cabrio properly.

My knowledge of writing is intermediate to novice at best, so I suppose that with most of our more experienced members working on the Cabrio reboot, I will go with one of the 'terminal' looking, command line driven jukes for now. But this I think should definitely considered for the Cabrio reboot...jukebox software I mean. I just think it may be a pretty sweet addition.
