sorry i hadn't been around much lately but glad to hear that people are still interested in meeting and organizing. are we still doing thurs, 2.30 in 1091? elsa and i went to the march in sacramento and have started working on an article about it (how it was cool but not enough, meaningful solutions were not presented etc). this led to us talking about working on 7day weekend the newsletter at ucsc which is supposed to get going again - or at least distributing some sort of periodical or information on campus. also it would be good i think just to get together and talk about ideas for events, projects, ways to spend the $400 we now have... anyway i can make it tomorrow, will anyone be there?

Here is a reading I think we can start with for discussion group.

Mike Davis wrote a book by the same title, which is worth checking out.

I think sections 4 and 5 are most crucial for us.  So spend time re-reading those sections: they're called "Urban Poverty's Big Bang" and "Marx and Holy Ghost."  Anyway, the beginning of the article is pretty clear, but the conceptual and historical problems get tougher as the article goes along.  And they are stated briefly.
