I dunno but let me know when you find out.  Have you tried contacting Cabo Rico?  Years ago they made me a new bowsprit for a good price.

I tried at the US office and got no reply. What is the e-mail in Costa Rico?

I tried new rudders, their price was out of reason. I would have to do it myself.

Have oyu tried calling?  There was a lady there who worked with me on the sprit. Forget name and don't have contact info now, sadly.  If you do inquire with them, ask about making two (one for me).

What's the deal with your rudder?  Have you opened it up?  The guy who did my bottom dried mine out in his shop this year; says it was full of wet foam inside?  No idea what condition the metal is.

If I don't get a new one, my plan in hte next several years is to cut it open, assess condition of metal and foam inside, and … well and put it back together.

what's wrong with that picture?!

I wouldn't trust that rudder. The metal cross-pieces will fail. and the post does not go down to the bottom of the rudder.  Ideally the parts of the rudder that extend out from the post should be welded along the entire length of the post, with a solid piece of steel cut to shape, rather than a few bars welded for a few inches.

That e-mail didn't work? The rudder I have is bent on the shaft about 10 deg's. When I got the boat I dried it out and re-foamed/rebuilt it. It wasn't until I installed an auto-pilot that I found out it was bent.

Sorry, it was the most current one that I had and has worked in the past.  Perhaps there is an issue at the other end with Cabo Rico.

As of November 2008, I was able to reach Fraser Smith at this address -

He facilitated shipping a part to me from their warehouse last year. He has also been very helpful to me every time I have inquired about anything.

Cheers
Dave
