this is the steering system - so no alternate cable option.

I’ll look at Haven - I was up there for a bit when selling my previous boat.  Nice area.

No. We are a Cabo Rico 34. Hull #2,

1989.

We spent 16 years on the Bay with Tango. You could also consider Haven Harbor in Rock Hall. We have had various levels of service wherever we've gone. We keep Tango in Daytona Beach. It's hard to get boat service there but we have eventually found what we needed. Have you called the Edson office? They may give advice.

Wishing you best of luck.

I have an older 38 #19. They used a two lever system. The cables can be bought at NAPA. Standard Auto cables. I replaced them maybe 20 years ago.

Leslie,

Agree about Luke (now retired). I'lll look at Tolchester.

interesting that you had the same - are you a Pilothouse (or is the pushrod/cable-in-tube the same for all 38s)?

I'm moored at Hartges & have had mixed experiences… :-I said they were.

I'll cehck and see if they are a “Edson” service shop. That would

definitely be most convenient - and I really want them to be the shop their

old reputation

Checking the Edson web site,

it is clear that this is a design flaw. The original Cabo installation is

mid-curve (nothing straight about it) while Edson is clear that the fitting

" should be *installed in an accessible area of straight conduit” . *

Edson's In-Line Conduit Greasers are a simple, efficient way to lubricate

your conduit. One should be *installed in an accessible area of straight

conduit *as close to the middle of each run as possible - preferably every

3'-5' where…

an un-Cabo RIco like thing to do.

We had good experiences when we had Luke overseeing our work. That said we had the exact failure years ago. It was repaired by Tolchester Marina. A bit north for you. Don't know if you wish to travel further. It seems one can be happy if the technician is one who cares about his work. And the disappointment can arise when one doesn't care.

IMG_4051.jpeg This first happened when I was bringing the boat up from Oriental - no steering righ in the middle of a very choppy Albemarle sound. (luckily the pilothouse has hydraulic steering in the Pilothouse.) That was 2017, had it replaced in Hamptons.

Just found this re-failure (steering still functions but…) a couple of weeks ago. Looks like the overall radius is beyond the strength of the grease fitting. I think I could rig a support line to this plastic fitting that would force the strain out to the tubes themselves. BUT

$$ to get the thing replaced - I'm thinking this is beyond my abilities.

1. Any recommendations in the West River - Annapolis area?

2. Any random comments? :-)
