We are new members of the group, and are very excited soon to be owners of a 1988 Cabo Rico XL.  We are going to be using the vessel for 6 pack day charters, starting in late June/early July, and we have a bit of a quandary.  We're trying to set up marketing media (website, brochure/rack card, press releases etc.), but since we don't yet have possession of the vessel we have no high resolution photos to use.  If we wait until we close the deal to shoot photos of the boat it will set us back a few weeks.

So............we are hoping that some of you 38 owners have higher resolution pictures of your boat under sail, and maybe some on deck underway shots (including those that show people having a great time!) that you would be willing to pass on to us for our promotional materials. The idea is that we initially use these stock photos until we have a chance to build our own photo library this summer.  We would be happy to give you photo credit if you like.

We are adding the Cabo to an existing passenger sailing vessel company, with the ultimate goal of selling up and heading out on the her.  We're traditional sailors at heart (our other boat is a 114' gaff rigged schooner) so these elegant and seaworthy vessels speak to our souls.

If you have photos you are willing to share, please email them to:  da...@tallshipsailing.com.  Thank you in advance.

Neat photos, Mike!

Dave: we have some photos from original Cabo Rico marketing materials on http://croa.us (click on the "brochures and marketing material" link). However, I believe most of these cames rom Cabo Rico and distributed by members of our group; I don't know if they licensed for use in commercial settings.

Cheers
mickey

Mickey,

If we wanted to use any of the Cabo Rico marketing materials, do you know how we could get a hold of the appropriate person to ask permission?  Since their out of business their contact info is know longer relevant.

I'm not sure, I think others in the group have had relatively recent contact with Fraser or others at Cabo Rico using their caborico.com emails.

Great photo's guys
Interesting thing I have a high cut yankie and all these photo's have a regular cut jib.
How do these boats sail with such a large jib and dose the staysil do anything?
I ask this beacuse I am thinking of new sails and wanted to lower the cut and I did not think I could go that low.

My boat came with a yankee. I think that's the original. Being young and foolish, I got a large jib. Now I have to partially furl the headstay before I tack.
The large jib came directly from Cabo Rico. They had one around apparently they weren't using. So perhaps they switched to a bigger jib or had this one built for an owner who didn't like it.

I have both. The staysail adds little when using either in the way of speed. Its mainly a stabilizer. I usually have to oversheet it to get a good slot for either jib. The 135 can be sheeted in tighter as it clears the shrouds a bit better, but over 20 it starts to overpower. Love the yankee offshore in a blow. Hate it in the harbour under 10 knots

When I saw the photos start to pop up, I had to join in. We have some beautiful boats!!!!!!

The 135 on Buiochas is great for racing around the bouys or day sailing, providing the wind is less than 15kts apparent. I drop my staysail and pull the stay back to clear the deck for easy tacks. I have to start reefing @18 to 20 kts. as she is overpowered with the rail in the water.

Interesting
Guess having both is the way to go.
My yankie is still in good condition and changing head sails is no big deal.

I just received an email from Fraser, offering permission to use CR's images.  He also sent the following: "Importantly too, is that Cabo Rico has been idle during the economic downturn but will be returning to production shortly. We are available to help you if you have any particular questions about the boat you are considering or when she is being surveyed."

This may be old news to the CR group, but I am really happy to hear that they will be starting production again. I am also impressed that they are so willing to be available to help with information.

Dave,
First I have heard of the return. I hope it is longer lived then before. Good news otherwise.
