I attended today's Zoom call previewing the Calif. Bike Summit in San
Diego April 18-19, which I will be attending.

The focus of the hour-long call was almost entirely on infrastructure
projects in the San Diego area, which will be featured at the summit.

Near the end of the call, Calbike shared the URL for the request for
proposals (sessions) at the summit.

Proposals are due Friday, December 15, including "ideas for
presentations you would like to see. Each proposal is supposed to
represent a city or region (but nothing prevents one from suggesting it
have statewide scope).

Thanks. I was on another call.
I plan to submit a proposal about a session or two on the value of and the available resources for the education of bicyclists, motorists, law enforcement, transportation professionals, and elected officials for lawful and effective sharing of public right of way.

Scott - thanks for attending (suffering through) the Zoom call!

If anything, they and PFB are very predictable with their approaches...

The California Bike Summit by CalBike will be held in San Diego. Based on early communications, the CalBike folks seem to be focusing summit content on infrastructure improvements to promote more and better bicycling - fine. But more bicycling by more people to more places is also brought about by knowledge and skill at using the facilities that we have now.

The response form/URL that CalBike shared requests proposals and ideas for sessions at the summit. We are encouraged to submit requests for session topics.
Please bring up the form ( https://form.jotform.com/233105101501029 ) and insert your topic requests. My requests include:
1. A session extolling the value added from educating bicyclists, and what resources are available for educating bicyclists, motorists, traffic enforcement folks, elected officials, etc., about bicycling Best and Lawful practices?
2. A workshop session about what can be and is being done to reduce motor vehicle driver speeding and failure to yield to bicycle and pedestrian traffic.
3. If we wish to protect the comfort and safety of bikeways for bicycling, how can electric-assisted bicycle users (and others) be constrained from unsafe speeding and failure to yield?
4. Debate idea - eBike users should/should not be required to have passed a test of driver ability similar to that required of motorcyclists.
5. Review recent changes/improvements to the California Vehicle Code for bicycling AND brainstorm ideas for future Vehicle Code improvements.

What would you like presented at the Summit?
https://form.jotform.com/233105101501029 speak up!
