The California Bike Summit by CalBike will be held in San Diego. Based on early communications, the CalBike folks seem to be focusing summit content on infrastructure improvements to promote more and better bicycling - fine. But more bicycling by more people to more places is also brought about by knowledge and skill at using the facilities that we have now.
The response form/URL that CalBike shared requests proposals and ideas for sessions at the summit. We are encouraged to submit requests for session topics.
1. A session extolling the value added from educating bicyclists, and what resources are available for educating bicyclists, motorists, traffic enforcement folks, elected officials, etc., about bicycling Best and Lawful practices?
2. A workshop session about what can be and is being done to reduce motor vehicle driver speeding and failure to yield to bicycle and pedestrian traffic.
3. If we wish to protect the comfort and safety of bikeways for bicycling, how can electric-assisted bicycle users (and others) be constrained from unsafe speeding and failure to yield?
4. Debate idea - eBike users should/should not be required to have passed a test of driver ability similar to that required of motorcyclists.
5. Review recent changes/improvements to the California Vehicle Code for bicycling AND brainstorm ideas for future Vehicle Code improvements.
What would you like presented at the Summit?
