LA Bus Lanes

In today’s L.A. Times:

No mention of bicyclists using the bus lane, but my understanding is that in L.A. City the “BUS ONLY” signs are accompanied by “BIKES OK,” which is not the case in Santa Monica where I understand cyclists are not allowed in the BUS ONLY lanes. I don’t know about other cities in L.A. County such as Culver City, Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, etc.

I’ve used the bus lane on Wilshire Boulevard on my bike all the from Santa Monica to downtown and it worked fine. The combination of bus lanes open to cyclists and ecyclists looks attractive to me as a way of making cycling in the city more attractive, faster and safer.

I’d like to know from other cities in California what the deal is with bus lanes there. Perhaps this is something CABO could work on, in particular, making sure the bus lanes are open to cyclists.

I love the bus lanes in downtown LA. Never had a problem sharing with professional drivers. I don't leapfrog 'em, I don't clog the bus stops, and I've exchanged waves with 'em several times.
