I agree with everybody’s input here.  “Strong and Fearless” is such an obvious pejorative.  It was very annoying to go through that survey and then have that thrust in one’s face as thanks for taking the time to do their poorly constructed survey.  Isn’t CPBS the organization that the SDCBC coup plotters turned to to overturn the original SDCBC organizers and leaders in order to install their own infrastructure-biased cycling approach group?

Every time we get the opportunity to comment on an article, we need to post two corrections:

1) Replace "strong and fearless" with any of the great suggestions posed here. Point out that fearless implies careless and oblivious to danger, which is now how any of us have stayed alive over the years and thousands of miles.

2) Replace "protected" with segregated, as in inferior, referring to days of the treatment of "coloreds" in the South.  

We also need to point out the close kinship between "bikes don't belong" and "protected" cycling facilities. Both seek to reduce or eliminate our fundamental freedom of mobility.

On a happier note, I walked* alongside the newly-repaved Encinitas Bl. / I-5 interchange and noted the location of the white markers. Eastbound, it does indeed appear that the bike lane will merge away from the curb, carving out a new right turn only pocket. If I am interpreting it right, this is going to be a vast improvement over the pre-repave configuration, and close to what several of us have advocated for years. This is what I like about having a fellow ("get it done"; "fix the problem") engineer (and personal friend and professional colleague) for mayor. He isn't a cyclist himself, but his right-hand man, my D2 councilman and friend Jim O'Hara, is, and we have his ear. I'll report back after my walk today.

*I am still recovering from very successful cataract surgery, and following my doctor's 1-to-2-week activity and exercise restrictions (ugh) so as not to disrupt her very skilled handiwork. I am allowed to walk (not jog or run), and I have been racking up the miles on foot in the interim.

SDCBC is having a meeting of ots advocacy committee in Encinitus this Thursday evening. I do not know what's on the agenda.

Members can certainly attend. I expect that interested but prospective member people could also attend and participate.
