Nice piece, but follow up deserved…
There is no such thing as a ’class 4’ e-bike despite what the profiteering salesmen say…
Class 2 throttle bicycles are limited to 20 mph assist capability.
Class 1 and 3 have no throttle- only pedal assist and only to 20 & 28 mph.
Throttle over 20 mph up to 30 mph max makes it a moped under current state law.
Over 30 mph makes it a motorcycle under current state law.
Being electric is irrelevant and driving without DMV registration and a drivers license is illegal state wide.
Stop using e-bike and use what they are Uber the law.
Electric Bicycle (with pedals)
Cl 1 - pedal assist only, to 20mph
Cl 2 - throttle to 20 mph
Cl 3 - pedal assist only, to 28mph
Electric Moped (with or without pedals)
Electric Motorcycles (with or without pedals)
