I've had this concern since I first heard it years ago.

My response was to teach around it. I tell my students, "When you put on your helmet, it should be like flipping a switch-- I'm going for a ride now. I need to think like I'm driving a vehicle on the road. I have to look out for my safety and the safety of others."
