Hi All,
There was a subcommittee vote today in Energy and Commerce on the Magnus White and Safer Streets Act. Despite the Chair of the Subcommittee speaking against the bill, the bill passed as a voice vote!
That is a major step forward! It means the bill will continue to a full committee vote in the next few weeks. We'll need to continue our push with Energy and Commerce members- especially since the Chairman Bilirakis (FL-12) pushed back... But we live to fight another day!
Bilirakis' pushback was the same pushback we've heard from NHTSA.. That the technology isn't ready yet, and it needs more testing.
The reality is that the same technology is required in the EU, and that some car companies like BMW and Subaru include it in nearly all models.
If your member of Congress is on E&C please reach out. A list of members is attached, let me know if you need contact information.
Here's a quick message:
- I was happy to see that HR 7353: The Magnus White and Safer Streets Act made it through the Subcommittee
- Please support the bill when it comes before the full committee.
- Bicyclist Automatic Emergency Braking is tested. It is required by the European Union. And many car manufacturers including BMW, Subaru and Hyundai include it in their vehicles already.
