Hi: I previously posted to CABO Forum (Jan 27th) about a proposal to transform Bay Street in Santa Cruz from the
current
one-way each direction standard bike lane configuration to a two-way bikeway 8 or 10 feet wide separated from the street by a raised curb which switches sides of the street midway along the route. This concept will be presented to the City Council next Tuesday as a staff request to proceed with detailed design drawings. While I am versed in the various issues that such a two-way separated bikeway presents, I would appreciate it if anyone can offer (1) concise, simple reasons to not proceed with such a design that council members might easily grasp and/or (2) simple graphics that illustrate some of the dangers of two-way separated bikeways along two-way streets with both signalized and non-signalized intersections along the way. Any such support will be helpful and appreciated. Thanks, Rick Hyman
