"Elon
Musk announced today that Tesla will enable its electric vehicle
owners with (Supervised) Full Self-Driving (FSD) to 'text and
drive' in 'a month or two,' without explaining how they will get
around the clear laws that prohibit that."

After 60+ years bicycling on California streets and highways
I'm skeptical of all technological predictions.
The roll out, plus the time it takes to achieve the desired
effects
of those technologies takes longer to become real
-- if they ever actually do.
E.g. air quality has improved significantly in the LA basin
due to AQMD and then CARB edicts,
but you can still get smogged out during prolonged
downslope winds.
CARB can't control those.
And the costs
-- in the case of clean air
it's the ban on useful solvents like denatured alcohol
as CARB mission creeps in search of a reason to exist,
in the case of self driving private cars
it's the threat (realized...) to peds, cyclists,
and the cars' passengers.
Those eager for Waymos to solve traffic and parking problems
ignore the fundamental appeals of comfort,
independence, spontaneity, status that comes
with private car ownership.
