What an amazing turn out last night! It was standing room only and
I'm sure there were upwards of 50+ people present, the solid majority
CaBi station supporters. To put this in context, most subcommittee
meetings rarely have more than 10 people present each month.

Chris Holben from DDOT provided an overview of the system and the
history of the Lincoln Park bikeshare debate from the agency's
perspective. I think--but it wasn't entirely clear, as several of us
commented--that the bikestation is going to move forward. My
suggestion would be for DDOT to do a trial run of the Northeast
pedestrian island and reassess after a few months. These systems are
entirely modular and as Holben pointed out, can be moved in an hour.
Another strategy could be deployment of a station at Lincoln Park at
the ped island until NPS logistics can be resolved, then move to the
interior of the park

For those that attended, feel free to add on to my quick summary.

Thanks,

Ryan

For what it's worth, I left the meeting with the impression that a station will be in the Lincoln Park area (most likely at the NE triangle) with a week or two. Chris Holben from DDOT was absolutely awesome. he handled complaints very well and addressed concerns thoughtfully. He was also able to separate legit concerns from red herrings.

Also, keep an eye out. Most exciting news for CaBi was that DDOT will find out today if they received a grant that would double the size of the CaBi system by adding in 100 more stations.
