For years I have downloaded library e-books (epub format) to Adobe Digital Editions and then moved them to my Nook. Early in December 2016, they would not download to ADE and I get the message "unable to download. License Server Communications Problem: E_STREAM_ERROR". My daughter lives in another town and is having the same problem trying to borrow e-books from her library. How do we fix this? Our libraries just want to say it is a problem with our computers and/or Nooks!
I have been working on the same problem for over two weeks. I have worked with two library districts. With one of the librarian;s sat with me and tried going through the chat for over 2 hours that day and I spent .5 hours today, but in the end they-3 different people on Adobe chat-sent me here saying it would be taken care of. I have updated my version to the latest, but the glitch seems to be that the email even in the new version is an old one that I have not had access to for years. I asked for the 2 of the people in the chats to change it or fix it, they would send me to the forums. I am getting very frustrated as this is my only way to download books.
I have the same problem, I could not download an ebook from the Library to Digital Editions, I was told by a library person that there is problems with older versions of ADE and that I needed to un-install and re-install, I did this managed to get through and Authorize my Computer (Desk top PC) only to find that I still can not open a library book in ADE, with a technical person within the library who looks after the audio and e section, when going through stuff to do with ADE we discovered that we have a problem with the ACSM file it is not connected with ADE I asked the Adobe technical chat line who are getting paid for sitting there NOT answering questions and telling me I need to speak with an expert in the forum, to which I have only found this page so far .... so not much help there but I defiantly need help to get to be able to read my books again on my desk top PC
What I tried deauthorizing/reauthorizing ADE on my computer, uninstalling ADE 4.5.2/reinstalling ADE 4.5.3, uninstalling 4.5.3/reinstalling 3.0, uninstalling 3.0/reinstalling 4.0 (Installation issues for Adobe Digital Editions 4.0). I made sure that acsm and epub files were associated with ADE.
I finally read on one post (My digital editions has stopped working ) that once ADE crashes, it tries to reopen in its previous state and crashes again. I did as that poster suggested: I copied my ADE folder to another location in My Documents, then deleted the original folder. When I tried to reopen ADE and download a book--it finally worked and I was able to download my library book!! While reloading the books from my backup file individually hasn't worked, I have been able to download additional books from a second library into ADE with no problem so far (fingers crossed that that continues).
According to other feedback you need to erase authorization and then redo it to get this error to go away. My issue is that when the window opens for (command-shift-D and it has my Authorized user correct, and asks for password. I input my Adobe password and says it is the incorrect password. I have gone onto the main Adobe site and changed my password; reloaded Adobe digitial editions; restarted computer...
I am having the same issue... My books are showing up on the Nook but are unable to fully open. I am prompted for an Adobe log in even though I have already authorized my Nook with my log in credentials.
I also have this problem. I have called Adobe Help because the Help Chat also doesn't help. The Customer Service person also can't help, other than escalating this issue. I hope the Adobe Digital Editions will actually help by providing instructions for the lastest Macs, including iMacs.
I also had a corrupted ADE file. My elibrary account was no longer functional; I couldn't "erase" and "re authorize" because the file no longer had my ID but an unknown ID--my "adobe ID" had changed to my library number + cloud library. The login requested was "vendor ID and password." Since it was damaged in that way, any login was impossible. I have a MAC and went to Apple. The "Genius" went into my hard drive Library and deleted the damaged adobe document. She said "a user could not do this because it was a technologically advanced software action." We then reloaded ADE and everything is now working again. This could NOT be accomplished by merely "erasing or trashing" the damaged program. (I called Apple and the tech (as well as many others!) tried these actions and couldn't fix the issue on the phone). If you have a MAC, make a Genius Bar appointment.
Just want to add that this totally worked for me - going to Finder - Go to Folder - and searching for that exact file. I did have a very old version of Adobe Editions (1.7) so I removed that - then downloaded the most recent (4.7) for my MAC system and then searched for the file. I deleted - opened Adobe Editions -- and opened my downloaded library books. This works for the License issue, but I was also getting the "error 2308" issue. That's when I decided to remove the outdated version, download the newer and try the authorization issue. Hope this helps someone if they are getting the "error 2308" issue. Just remove the program if it's outdated, download the most recent - find the authorization dat file - delete it - then reauthorize. Worked like a charm! Thank you!
I agree. I can't stand this piece of crap either. It's overly slow, scrolling sucks, zooming sucks and all of these make it really hard to find what you're looking for. On top of that, when you type in a page number, it is like 15 pages off, forcing you to scroll up or down. And the scrolling really is the worst I've ever seen, it literally takes like 5 seconds just to scroll to the next page. And that's absolutely ridiculous. Sometimes our professor will switch pages in the book a lot, and by the time I can find the problem she's already on another page. Incredibly frustrating. Do yourself a favor and stay away from Adobe Digital Editions like the plague. I won't buy an eBook again if I have to use this stupid Digital Editions crap.
Adobe have effectively "stolen my property" my e-books (mostly Wiley Publications) were originally purchased from Amazon and Adobe in PDF not digital editions. I bought them in PDF because that's the way I wanted them so I could use read aloud or print extracts. And along came Adobe who entered my home without my authority and put a padlock around my bookshelf, only the threat of legal action got my books back (Both Amazon and Adobe don't do redownloads for previously purchased books, and neither do Wiley) following the installation of Vista when DRM refused to authorize my books claiming it wasn't the original computer. All I had done was upgrade to Vista.
Now the nightmare is back, I had to reinstall my operating system due to failure of essential parts of the software and again Adobe have decided to nick my property again all my WILEY publications have been lost.
I agree that Digital Edition is really poorly made - imagine a real paperback book being so complicated to open and with such a bad non intuitive userinterface? We can do so many things today - I wish the programmers of the world would get that interface is the most important thing of every tool!!!
Here it is 2022 and this piece of garbage lives. I wish I could be more forgiving as it is my nature, but this abomination should just be removed from downloads and app stores and there should be no place for it in a professional environment or as a tool that schools use.
Why I cant copy fragments of the content!!!!????? I am a researcher and I want to use quotations!!!!! I don't want to type letter by letter....Thats why I tought this plataform will help me the homework of typing everything but is not working. At the begining it was working now its says that is not aloud!!!!! Can you please helP????? please Ernest.
This is truely the worse reader I have used on my pod, hands down bar none, all comments are true here and adobe can do a better job and should, they are getting tax payers money and for that providing a really bad product and should be both embarrassed as well as ashamed.
I agree. Navigating is awful. On my Mac, scrolling virtually does not work, it is incredibly slow and choppy. It is the Adobe software because I'm on OSX 10.7 with a quad core i5 and 32 Gigs of RAM. Scrolling works great on my 8 year old windows XP machine though. Something is very very wrong with that. Also, what's the point of being able to highlight and take notes in my study book if they don't sync to my other devises? Also, there is no practical solution for the iPhone or iPad. I ditched the laptop years ago and I'm stuck studying and taking notes at home on my iMac that doesn't scroll. There also is no feature to click to the next page, I have to type in the page number. Worst software I have ever used. I can't desire if I'm more upset with Adobe or with the Publisher for not providing the book through Apple, Amazon, or Kindle.
Since there are really no helpful comments on how to fix this issue posted here, even though it is old, I have found a solution. I am only replying since someone else will probably Google this problem in the near future and read through the whole forum, hence how I arrived here today. My solution was to download ePub converter (5-day free trial) and this application will allow you to convert your .acsm file into PDF, Kindle reader format (suggested; awesome reader w/ useful features) and about 3 or so more different file formats. There is more information listed on the application website, which you can access here:
I hope this fixes future problems as I'm sure everyone who has posted here no longer has this problem. BTW, that first post was F***ING hilarious! Definitely the red-headed step child of Adobe products.
Adobe Digital Editions 4.5.8 suddenly stopped working when I tried to load a second library ebook (it loaded the first). It just sits at the splash screen and says "loading library...." but will NOT open. I tried uninstalling it and reinstalling ADE; uninstalling it and installing an older version I still had from two years ago; and even taking Windows back about 10-20 days using a restore point. NOTHING worked!
