Cabal Hikers,

I just got back from an awesome hike, and I would like to do it again. Anybody up for it next Saturday April 25?

At the top, there are a bunch of telecommunication equipment. They are all fenced off (so we don't go there), but there is a pole that has no equipment, no fence, and no "no trespassing" sign. So we could bring some carabiners, harnesses, and cordlette and climb up for a better view (here's a video preview).

If we feel good, we can push toward Mission Peak, walking around some more gigantic equipment stations. We would not get too close to Mission Peak, so there are very few people. Most of our friends would be hang-gliders.

Are you in?

I'd actually be really excited for a longer hike!

I looked for the start point (sandy wool group area?) but got a slightly different map than his. Can you give a google maps link to the start point when you get a chance?

What time do you want to leave? I'm usually all for early, but what about a later start, where we carry headlamps and do a post-hiking dinner?

Yeah!

It is indeed a long hike, but rewarding I think. I suggest that we meet at:

37.454424, -121.863261

https://www.google.com/maps/place/37%C2%B027'15.9%22N+121%C2%B051'47.7%22W/@37.454424,-121.863261,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0x0

There are other parking lots, but this one is the closest, which would give us more time to explore. The entrance fee is $6 so car pooling would be better. I'm also attaching a PDF for the map of the park.

My idea was actually to leave early, at around 8:30am. I'm, of course, open to suggestions. The issue with the night hike is that the park closes at sunset.

What we could do is not do a loop and end at Ohlone college before 10pm. However, the parking lot gates at Sandy Wool get locked up, so we would have to have a non hiker drop some of us there, leave some cars at the college, etc... This is a little bit of logistics to do, but I'm OK with it as long as people can coordinate.

The plus side of this would be that we would not be walking in as hot a climate. The hike itself had some shade, but not as much as hills facing east.

As for the erroneous Google result, thanks for the report. I've submitted a fix (screenshot attached) which should go live by the time I'm visiting the flat land called NYC :)

I'm in! I'd prefer earlier rather than later.

Adding Evan, Sara, and Elaine.
