Cabal Hikers,

It appears that we have somewhat of an agreement. Let's go hike up a mountain this Saturday, April 25 at 8:30am!!! We meet at 37.454424, -121.863261.

We will be exploring Monument Peak and the East Bay hills. When you look east, you can see antennas. Let's take a closer look at various poles, telco stations, etc... provided that there is no sign prohibiting access.

The hike is about 9 miles at its shortest, potentially longer, if wished. The net elevation gain is ~2,000 ft but there is some up and down.

Individual gear:
  • Hiking shoes or boots
  • Long sleeve pants (optional: you can take off the lower part of the pleeves)
  • At least 5L (1 1/2 gallon) of water. The hike is partially shaded, but we won't have water sources on the way. I will not be carrying my usual dead weight water (but I will take some of the community gear), so I will check your reserve before we leave
  • Some snacks (but no fire source)
  • Hiking poles (optional)
  • Sunblock, hat, sunglasses
  • $6 in cash per car. Arrange carpool yourself.
Community gear:
  • Harness (Tony)
  • Another harness (???)
  • Printed map (Tony)
  • Another printed map (??? the PDF is attached)
  • Carabiners (gate and screw, ???)
  • Cordelette (Tony)
  • Rope (???)
  • Emergency kit (Tony)
Please let me know whether you will make it, either by replying to my email or accepting the calendar invitation. Reply to all if you will bring some of the missing community gear. On the day of, please call me at 415-830-6719 (don't text).

Tony

Will bring harness and carabiners....the rope is super heavy. Tony, can you describe more (with photos or specifics) what the climbing setup will be?

Cool. Thanks. It turns out I have carabiners too. If you have quick draws, it'd be good.

I will describe the setup on Saturday and we can decide whether it's worth taking the gear or leaving it on the trunks?

Looks nice and cool for tomorrow, high 50s, but also a medium-high chance of rain!

It started out cold and foggy, but it ended up being a great and beautiful hike. Here's G+ doing a pretty good auto-selection of my pics. Hopefully this is accessible to you? You may need to be signed in to Google to view it:

Mel and Pete, waiting on yours :)

Permission seems ok but somehow all images are marked as broken

It was like mission peak crossed with Scottland-in-fall, as there were 8 other hikers we passed in our 7 hours out there. It's like mission peak, but prettier and nearly empty.

**** would hike in the mist again
