Hi all,
at PIN I am organizing with Martin Doerr a series of seminars on CIDOC-CRM open to the participation of interested researchers.
The topics include:
1. CIDOC-CRM extensions, application profiles, metadata schemas and mapping tools
2. Parts-whole relationships
3. Fuzziness in space and time
4. Co-referencing and de-referencing. Linked open data.
5. Linking tangible and intangible cultural heritage
6. Managing CH information including 3D and 4D
7. Automatic reasoning on cultural data
The seminars, altogether called "summer school", will take place in Prato every day from 20 to 30 September. Participation is free of charge, but registration is required and participants will be individually selected to keep the overall number rather limited. Partial participation to one or more of the seminars is possible upon arrangement. Unfortunately we can provide no financial support to attendees.
As the seminars are not a tutorial, good knowledge of CIDOC-CRM is required, as well as some basic awareness of the research issues related to most if not all the above subjects. Young researchers are most welcome. As you may see from the attached program, active participation is planned and an informal report of your related research (or just related research questions) is expected.
It is unfortunate that for various reasons, including a long list of other commitments, we were forced to place these seminars in the last two weeks of September, partially clashing with TPDL 2012 that some of you may have already decided to attend. However, there is a Ryan Air flight from Pisa to Pafos on Monday 24th morning, so far priced at 16 Euro (yes, sixteen), and another one from Milan in the evening of Saturday 22nd at 40 Euro. Both airports can be easily reached from Prato by train. Both travel solutions would allow a stop-over in Prato for the first two seminars on the 20th and 21st September.
So if you go to TPDL and haven't yet booked the flight, consider the possibility of coming to Prato on the 19th, e.g. with Ryan Air or another low-cost via Pisa/Florence/Bologna, stay with us two days, and if you wish also continuing the discussion over the weekend, and then proceed in this really inexpensive way to TPDL.
For all the others, this is a good opportunity to work together on a stimulating program. Traveling to Prato is cheap and we can advice about low-cost accommodation.
The attached program includes instructions for registration. Feel free to ask for any further detail, like partial attendance, solutions for cheap travel/accommodation, etc. Please spread the news.
