Dear all,

I remember there was some discussion following the recent launch of CLAROS about using the SPARQL semantic query language.

For those of us in archaeology, and elsewhere, who might need a little more guidance on this I have just found a useful online tutorial for developing SPARQL skills which includes a good general introduction for those simply wanting to understand a bit more about how SPARQL and some of the related technologies fit together.

The tutorial is at http://www.cambridgesemantics.com/2008/09/sparql-by-example/

Hope others find this useful

Best wishes
Keith

Have you, or someone you know, been involved in a restoration project? If so, you could be eligible for a Heritage Angel Award, a new scheme backed by Andrew Lloyd Webber to celebrate the people who save our heritage.

Thanks Keith - Glad to see I'm not the only one trying to improve
their understanding of SPARQL!

O'Reilly also published the first proper text on SPARQL on 15 July
(electronically only at the moment, but the print version should be
available shortly), and I'm working with it right now. It includes
discussions of the new features which are part of the SPARQL 1.1
specification (not quite finished as a W3C recommendation, but close),
so its quite current, and seems pretty useful so far.

Not free, but not terribly expensive either:

All best,
