Story:
Police in Mishawaka, IN are looking for Rufino Castaneda. They say
that he kidnapped a woman from a bar and took her to a home in nearby
South Bend where he sexually assaulted her.
Cops say it all began on the evening of November 1, 2000 at a strip mall
pub in Mishawaka. They say that a female, we'll call "Tiffany," was
taken by force away from the bar. Police say that two men kidnapped
"Tiffany," put her into a car and began driving away from the scene.
Authorities haven't yet identified the driver. They say that
Castaneda sat in the back of the car, restraining and hitting
"Tiffany." Detectives say they drove "Tiffany" to Castaneda's
ex-girlfriend's home. Police believe the driver left, but Castaneda
pulled "Tiffany" into the home.
Once inside, police say Castaneda sexually assaulted "Tiffany" and
physically attacked her repeatedly. Cops say that "Tiffany" fought
back and escaped, probably saving her own life.
Authorities say that when they arrived on the scene, "Tiffany" (clothed
only in a cardboard box) led them to the home where she had been
attacked. Further investigation linked both Castaneda and the victim
to the scene and police charged Castaneda.
Police believe Castaneda fled immediately. He was last seen the day
after the alleged attack at his job in Bremen, IN. Police say he
abruptly quit his factory job. There have been no confirmed sightings
since November 2000.
