The album has 19 tracks, 21 for those grab it from his website, and clocks in about one hour and fifteen minutes. While I interpreted Chris to be an emotional journey of loss, love, lessons, and everything between. I find Romeo & Juliet to be full of love, hope, heartfelt memories, heartache, day dreams, and moments where the world was just perfect, as summer often seems.
"Romeo and Juliet" is a rock[1][4][5] song by the British rock band Dire Straits, written by frontman Mark Knopfler. It first appeared on the 1980 album Making Movies and was released as a single in 1981.[6] The song subsequently appeared on the Dire Straits live albums Alchemy and On the Night, and later on Knopfler's live duet album with Emmylou Harris, Real Live Roadrunning (though Harris does not perform on the track). The track was also featured on the greatest hits albums Money for Nothing, Sultans of Swing: The Very Best of Dire Straits, and The Best of Dire Straits & Mark Knopfler: Private Investigations.
The song opens on an arpeggiated resonator guitar part played by Knopfler, who also sings the lead vocal. The introductory arpeggios and melody are played on a National Style "O" guitar;[7] the same guitar featured on the album artwork for Brothers in Arms and Sultans of Swing: The Very Best of Dire Straits.[8] In the Sky Arts documentary Guitar Stories: Mark Knopfler, "Knopfler picks up the National and demonstrates how he hit on the famous arpeggio lines in "Romeo and Juliet", from the Making Movies album, while experimenting with an open G tuning."[9] The instrumentation remains simple during the verses and moves to a full-on rock arrangement in the chorus sections.
The Juliet Letters is a studio album by the British rock singer and songwriter Elvis Costello and British string quartet Brodsky Quartet.[6][7] It was released on compact disc as Warner Brothers 45180. [8][9] Costello described the album as "a song sequence for string quartet and voice and it has a title. It's a little bit different. It's not a rock opera. It's a new thing."[citation needed] It peaked at No. 18 on the UK Albums Chart, and at No. 125 on the Billboard 200.
Costello first encountered the Brodsky Quartet in 1989, a performance at the Queen Elizabeth Hall of the entire cycle of string quartets by Dmitri Shostakovich.[10] They met for the first time in November 1991, to begin work on the concept and execution of this album project. Costello viewed this album as neither his first stab at classical music, nor the Brodsky's first attempt at rock and roll.[11]
With a concept of imaginary letters being sent to an imaginary recipient, Juliet Capulet, all five musicians contributed to the writing of the lyrics as well as the music.[12] No overdubs were made, the album recorded in its entirety live in the studio.[13] One single was released from the album, the track "Jacksons, Monk, and Rowe," although it did not chart in either the United States or the UK.
The album was released initially on compact disc in 1993. As part of the Rhino Records reissue campaign for Costello's back catalogue from Demon/Columbia and Warners, it was re-released in 2006 with 18 additional tracks on a bonus disc. The bonus disc included additional musicians to Costello and the Brodsky Quartet, with some tracks recorded live at the 1995 Meltdown Festival.[14] This reissue is out of print; the album was reissued again by Universal Music Group after its acquisition of Costello's complete catalogue in 2006. A new edition of the sheet music was released on 15 September 2023, edited by Jacqueline Thomas and Paul Cassidy, published exclusively by Hal Leonard.
The album is "an adaptation of Tchaikovsky's famous theme with strings and electronic instruments, in a pop vein.[1] The AllMusic reviewer described the album as "Light jazz (with strings, keyboards, voices, etc.) and a classical/Eastern flavor."[3]
Three years since the NY Times article that revealed his totally inappropriate behaviour with past partners, fellow musicians and fans and cast him into the musical wilderness, Ryan Adams has been slowly rebuilding his career on his own label. Wednesdays (2020), Big Colors (2021) and Chris (2022) preceded this new double album and though they had some strong moments, Romeo & Juliet finds Adams comprehensively back in a creative and rewarding sweet spot on his 20th studio album.
The lead song for Katy Perry's 2013 album titled Prism, Roar is a track of self-empowerment, with Katy Perry in a jungle for the track's music video. It was nominated for song of the year at the 2014 Grammy Awards.
Most everyone has that certain song, one that takes you back in your mind and heart to an earlier time and place. But imagine if that song were an entire album. And it essentially locked you in a place in the past.
"Roar" (originally by Katy Perry) was released as the first single from the cast album and is currently streaming. Audiences can tune into NBC's America's Got Talent September 7 to see lead actor Lorna Courtney perform the number.
Marrying the ardently soulful with the boldly inventive, New Jersey-based Romeo + Juliet's debut album Raging Bull is a stunning effort that shouldn't be missed as the new year releases heat up. It's a project that takes pride in its timelessness and attention to detail, a monument to heaven sent creativity and musicality.
"Raging Bull" is appropriately cinematic and experimental, a 14-song album that somehow remains cohesive and singular despite its sonic potpourri of influences. There's Blood Orange in there, along with Leon Bridges and Marvin Gaye, dance synths that call to mind Kaytranada, and clever, nuanced writing that echoes the ethos of Frank Ocean. It remains solely in its own lane, however, marrying so many genre influences it feels unfair to even begin categorizing it. Early standout "King David" illustrates the story of its titular subject, a multilateral narrative focusing on the limits of love, passion, and struggle. Much of the album is spent exploring these themes, often finding ear-catching melodies that somehow illustrate complex emotions. Another example of this comes in "Slide", a flowery love song with pulsating bass and an angelic composition that feels destined to be a soundtrack for warm Summer nights.
"The Light Within is about as perfect a mixture of gorgeous vocals, delightful musical compositions, sterling performances, and superb production/engineering as you're likely to hear this year (and probably for a few years to come). It stands toe to toe with albums from the likes of Enya and 2002's later releases." - Bill Binkelman, Wind and Wire (full review)
"A very special album, unlike any other, that the whole world should hear and inhale deeply into their entire 'beingness.' The harmoniously melodic light from this album gently pours out onto us, filling us to the brim with love." - Dyan Garris, Best New Age CDs (full review)
The most famous couple of Verona, Italy, are exquisitely captured on this genuine leather photo album, handcrafted in a small artisan shop in Florence. Using centuries old tools and techniques, the smooth Vacchetta leather is radiant and slighly padded to the touch. The lovers' image was meticulously hand-tooled. Contrasting brown moire' lines the inside front and back covers. A true Renaissance masterpiece.
The Juliet Letters is the 14th studio album by singer and songwriter Elvis Costello. Originally released in 1993, the critically acclaimed album peaked at No. 18 on the UK album chart. This long out of print and much requested vinyl release is now re-issued on 180 gram audiophile vinyl.
The Juliet Letters is the 14th studio album by singer and songwriter Elvis Costello. Originally released in 1993, the critically acclaimed album peaked at No. 18 on the UK album chart. The entire instrumental backing for The Juliet Letters is provided by The Brodsky Quartet. Costello had become interested in classical music around the time of Spike and began attending classical concerts. One of the ensembles he enjoyed most was the Brodsky Quartet. Once Costello and the Quartet got to know each other, they were keen on working together, eventually resulting in a full length album.
Juliet made their debut in 1997 as a co-ed rock band under the agency Wonder Music with their debut studio album Juliet Since 1997. The band contained three members: vocalist Kim Jooil who was also a debuted actress in 1993, guitarist Kim Namsang, and bassist Park Hyunjin. The band was described as a 'one hit wonder' at the time of their debut. Korean rock music was at a decline in the 1990s, particularly when the concept of 'idol groups' and 'idol music' took off - however, Juliet was able to temporarily revive the genre and immense gain popularity. Despite their sudden fame, internally there were financial problems with their agency, Wonder Music: from July 1997, the agency was badly affected by the 1997 Asian financial crisis which lead to all future albums being scrapped. And so, guitarist Namsang and bassist Park Hyunjin left the band, leaving Juliet as a one-member band with only vocalist Kim Jooil remaining. The group remained inactive throughout 1998 and 1999.[1]
In 2000, Juliet made plans to return as a female duo group. A new member, Kim Minkyoung was added as a second vocalist. With Kim Jooil and Kim Minkyoung, Juliet released their first comeback studio album after nearly 3 years of inactivity. Juliet's entire concept was changed, abandoning their rock band concept, and instead becoming a dance idol group with techno sounds. Their studio album, Sorry, was released in 2000. Unfortunately, the popularity of Juliet severely plummeted by 2000 and the reception of their concept and music change was negative. Subsequently after promotions, Juliet announced their disbandment.[1]
