Hello I am looking to upgrade to an Axiom +RV with RealVision 3d sonar. It seems like it requires a through hull transducer. This will be going on a 1994 Catalina 320. Does the Raymarine transducers fit in the same through hull as the speed and depth sounder forward of the keel or does it require a new through hull? Will one transducer work since it would be forward of the keel. Seems like from the raymarine information the two transducer (starboard & port) is only required if mounting on sides of where keel is, but if not interfered by keel then seems like one would work? Not really wanting to drill new through hull was hoping existing ones would work?.... I am assuming you could remove the depth sounder and the new 3d transducer would still provide, depth readings to the Axoim display and all other networked devices? Has anyone tried doing this on a sailboat, it would be nice for finding bottom structure/wrecks to be able to anchor for diving fishing etc. They have an external transom mount that I suppose could be rigged up, esp. since I would only be using the 3d sonar occasionally, but seems like it should be installed behind the prop, and would likely need some kind of pole/extension to get it down into the water. Also, from other forums seems like you can use these new chirp high freq/power transducers attached inside the hull with wax/epoxy etc... other users say it won't work. Just curious if other have tried adding on the RealVision sonar transducer to a sailboat. Thanks.
