[C320-list] Standing rigging - compression vs self fit

I have my own thoughts but open to hear opinions:Most standing I see is compression. Some reason for that?  I was just told the self fit type (such as Stay-lok) have more holding power and uses basic hand tools? Easy to do yourself. 
My instinct is to use what is most often used by almost everybody... and leave mast failure to professionals.
Anybody used/done/replaced their own rigging using self-fit rigging?

Compression - or swaged - fittings are alot less expensive than the Stay-Lok self assembly. If you are a professional rigger trying to offer competitive pricing it is woth investing in a hydrauloic swaging tool and assembling the rigging in your workshop.

I only did one…I installed roller furling on our old Cal 27-T/2 and used a Sta-Lock fitting on the new headstay. I found the process a bit fussy and was never truly confident that I had done it correctly…that said, it is till holding the mast up twenty years later and has survived a half dozen hurricanes…
