Hull #844. Considering adding a folding wheel.. The 320 is on the hard, in
the cold, so my question instead of visiting the boat is. Is the shaft on
the wheel tapered or straight? And are all the Edsen configurations for
the shaft on 320s the same?

Thanks

Don

Hi Don,
You need the straight/parallel hub. Buy the wheel model that comes with both hubs - cheaper than buying the extra hub by itself.
If you have a wheel-attached autohelm, you will also need new mounting brackets. Defender carries them.

Straight. Adding the folding wheel is not a simple plug and play, especially if you have a wheel autohelm. Takes a bit of fiddling to get the autohelm ring on the new wheel but not rocket science. We find the folding wheel a great addition but if we had series autohelm I would go for just removing the wheel.CheersJohnM1999#574

Ahoy......We put a folding wheel on our #245 last year....the first big
improvement on our recently purchased boat. Our shaft is straight. We
got the 40 inch wheel, same size as the one the the boat came with. If I
could do it over again, I would have gone with the 38 inch wheel,
getting a wee bit more room to maneuver  around the folded wheel. As it
is....it is so much easier to move back n forth...we back into a slip
with the dock to our stern, w/ no side floats......Joe n Beth

Don - I just received the Lewmar wheel from Defender. It comes with both
hubs - straight and tapered. The Edson hub is straight. However... I found
that the Edson hub-key is just a little bit too thick. I am trying to deal
with a solution to that currently. The bolts that hold the hub on are
supposed to be torqued to, I think, either 7 or 9 foot-pounds (the
directions that come with the wheel have the exact specs). The C320
Association has a loaner torque wrench available for Association members for
the cost of outbound and inbound shipping only.

Several replies.. nearest to my hull number straight shaft but one of the newer boats has a tapered shaft. Seems the best bet is to have both hubs shipped with the wheel..
