Looks like I'm replacing the engine mounts on Blue Skies 2005 #1037.
Ellebogen were recommended by our FB page readers and seem to be a great choice.

Has anybody seen documentation on "How To"? I've seen some generic stuff on YouTube university BUT this group knows the pros and cons.

Yes I've perused the Tech articles at C320.org, but didn't see any direct info.

First question is what sizes. It looks like some mix of 100lb, 150lb and 75lb

thanks

Hi Pat,

I have replaced mine 6 mths ago on 2007 C320 with yanmar 3YM30.
I used the softer mounts on the rear of the engine, from memory 100kg front
and 75kg rear.(Please note kg not lb)
I am travelling at the moment and won't be home until after the weekend when
I could check this. A few very quick notes here.
As the mounts were replaced as a precaution, I just used the same settings
for the new mounts and checked the prop shaft clearances at the end.
Process was, disconnect prop shaft (make sure it doesn't slide too far back,
you just need clearance so there is no force on the shaft) and replace the
mounts one at a time by using a small scissor jack to lift each corner of
the motor.
I can't remember needing to disconnect anything else as the movement is not
excessive to achieve this.
I was able to complete this in a few hours and have not had issues.
Would highlight need to check shaft settings right at the end and be
millimetre perfect on mount measurements (write them all down before
changing any of them) unless you are confident on realigning the engine.
Position and height are critical. Also, it is relevant if you are doing this
on the hard stand or the water. I did it in the water. If done on hardstand,
check shaft alignment when back in the water. (It may change)

Check clearances on shaft after new mounts have settled in and adjust if
necessary. (Time frame would depend on usage)

If your mounts are already failing this method may not work at all and a
complete engine realignment may be required.

Please note this is not complete instructions on how to do this, just some
quick notes that may help.

Best regards
Evan

Pat,

We are also planning for the replacement of our motor mounts this winter and
would be interested in this group's point of view. I priced out the
original equipment mounts from Yanmar and they were over $900. The OEM
mounts are YAN124772-08341 (#100) in the front and YAN128270-08341 (#75)) in
the back. The Ellebogen mounts (https://ellebogen.com/en/) are half that.
I am interested in anyone who has installed them and how the durable these
mounts are over time.

We had done this engine mount swap on our old C30TR some time ago and, in
that case, we removed the engine (from under the galley in the C30) and did
some other work too (replacement of engine hoses, scraping and painting the
engine block, replacing a few components). I did find a YouTube video
(https://youtu.be/u36VsB-9Zow?si=NxrKtOvlQzzTX82g) about replacing engine
mounts with the Ellebogen mounts without removing the engine though, in the
video comments, most folks talked about the need to realign the engine after
the swap. I highly agree with this requirement. We replaced our prop shaft
and cutless bearing and rebuilt our PSS shaft seal last winter on the C320
and the alignment was not terribly difficult to do. It just required
patience and thoroughness. There is a tech article on the C320 site about
the process with a downloadable spreadsheet.

We will be pulling the engine out to do this motor mount swap, as we had
done before on the C30, and will do similar engine maintenance tasks at the
same time. We'll remove the teak trim around the engine bay opening and
protect the cabin sole and bulkhead surfaces with ram board, as suggested in
another C320 post (search for oil pan replacement).

Good luck.

Regards,

~ Asa

I have not yet done this replacement, but I have been researching it and
following the forums and blogs for about 2 years. The Ellebogen mounts
get rave reviews on the forums, often with the owner right behind the
comments to give thanks. Also, the owner of Ellebogen has been extremely
responsive with help and posts on how to DIY the replacements. Go ahead
and check out the Yanmar forum as well as some of the other Catalina forums
and you’ll see the same. I doubt you will get this kind of after sale
support from your "local" yanmar parts distributor.

Thanks for the feedback, Troy. Pat and I will both be doing this project this winter and we both have purchased the Ellebogen mounts.

Hi Troy,
I had a very good experience speaking with the yanmar distributor when I changed my mounts out. He was very responsive in offering some very detailed information that helped get the job done properly.
Your Yanmar distributor is based on where you live. The one I used was Mac Boring up in New Jersey since I live in Virginia and Maryland. Folks should give them a try if they have specific questions about the mounts. Just my two cents based on a good experience.

FYI. I just successfully replaced my engine mounts (2005 #1037) without having to remove the engine.

I went with Ellebogen because the price was right and the rep seems to be pretty good.

The trick is to remove the engine mounting brackets rather than raise the engine off the mount.
I did mark and disconnect the shaft coupler.

Everything was more or less accessible EXCEPT the starboard aft mount's foreword lag screw; it had me wishing for one of the micro-ratcheting wrenches. My shorty3/8 drive worked...slowly.
In the good news department, I was able to use my Dewalt 3/8 impact wrench for most of the bolts. Note: the "arch" in the mount mysteriously allows access to the engine bolts on the forward mounts!

I did have to 'lift and jiggle" the engine to get the mounting holes to re-align. I was able to pull that off with some scrap wood, one of those inflatable "Win Bag" lifts (Home Depot $10, 3 inch lift, 300lb load) and a handy curiously wedge shaped rock. A couple of wedge shaped 2x4s might work better.

For access I had to remove the raw water pump which was fortunate, cuz I didn't notice it's rear seal was leaking. It'll be rebuilt.

I did not measure the existing mount heights as I plan to do a proper alignment from scratch in the spring. It would be weird to reuse the same setting as the known bad mounts.

I did discover that the PO(or his mechanic) had somehow mixed the mounts. They are supposed to be 75lb aft and 100lb forward but they were mixed one of each both aft and forward. It's nice to know that the truly uninspired can still make a living as a marine mechanic.

Hit me up with questions if you need more info
