Any Florida sailors out there? We are looking for any recommendations on best places to retire / live and sail in Florida for non-millionaires. :) Any Catalina owners on this list with marina / boating community suggestions, pros / cons? We are more into destinations sailing than just day-sailing.

Just curios, thanks.

Hello from S/ v. Windy City Catalina 320, hull number 948. We keep our boat behind our house and the sailing here is fabulous! We have lived it worked and played in Cape Coral for over 22 years and this is still my favorite place to live. Please visit my website at www.Cape Coral homes.com. Or call me anytime. I would be happy to speak with you. Sailboat access homes start around $250,000 and go up to 3 million. How much do you want to spend? We just got the award for the best place to live in the country if you have asthma, have super low crime for a city of 165,000 people, and we have choices of sailing in the gulf or the river or in between the islands. Always a fun destination around the corner. Tomorrow, our sailing club is sailing up to Tween Waters Resort on Sanibel Island to spend two nights there and party. Our sailing club has over 200 members, and there are two other 320 owners here, too. The average age in Cape Coral is 49 years old, not to be confused with Contadora and Port Charlotte where everyone is about 100😎

Jeff and Michele, we winter in Punta Gorda, the next town north of Cape Coral that Diane wrote of.  See recent Travel Weekly article:Charlotte Harbor's laid-back charms: Travel Weekly

From Punta Gorda, we can day sail around Charlotte Harbor or for longer sailing, the islands or go out to the Gulf through Boca Grande Pass.  We are an hour (by car) south of Venice, 1/2 north of Cape Coral and Ft Myers, one hour 15 minutes north of Naples.  We live in a very laid back community, speed limit, 30 mph, canals and slips behind most houses and condos.  Prices are just starting to go up from the 2011 or so low.
We bought in June 2010 and retired in May 2011.  We have spent the last four winters there.  Here's a web site I like for the Punta Gorda area.  Punta Gorda Florida Real Estate - SW Florida Waterfront Homes and Property for Boaters.  I have nothing to do with them, but they have a good RE web site.

Jeff and Michele,
We have been in Burnt Store Marina on Charlotte Harbor for ten years of winters.  CH is rated by Sail magazine as one of the ten best places to sail in the U.S. and has been for the past 12 years or morre.  We have a low-key yacht club that races Mondays weekly and some Saturdays from 11/1 through early April.
Check it out:  http://www.burntstoremarina.com/

Gosh darn it. I’m getting tired of hearing about people younger than us talking about retiring. At least Allen Field is still working albeit less than the hours of his heyday
