Maybe a silly question - I'm having a hard time removing the back plate of
the water pump to get at the impeller. Screws removed but it seems sealed,
hard to get even a screwdriver in to pry it. last year I had the yard
install a new water pump - the plate on the old one came off much easier.
Anyone have a special technique?

Remove the belt and take the pump off of the engine, then you can flop the pump...
