Hey everyone,

Had the standing rigging replaced, and I asked the rigger what the cost was going to be for installing everything. He asked if I wanted him to tune the rig and install the sails.

Certainly installing the sails I can do myself, but what about tuning the rig?

I don’t have a loos gauge. Tuning my Capri 18 was done on a, “that seems about right” basis.

Questions are, how often do you tune your rig? Is it worth buying the gauge? Should I have the dude go ahead and do that?

Thanks,

John

John,

The Association has Loos gauges in its loaner tool program, available to members who pay only the cost of shipping each way. I used them to retune my rig after pulling the mast and replacing parts of my standing rigging.

There is also an article on the Association website with suggested tuning tensions. https://c320.org/article.php/20040828173431380. I didn't use those tensions exactly because I don't have a backstay tensioner. But they provided a good starting point.
