[C320-list] Voltage issue

We just launched for the season and while motoring I noticed the voltage gauge on the engine pod pegged at the high end. The battery monitor and analog gauge on the breaker panel both show normal voltages. We spent last night on the hook and the gauge showed 13.5 volts with ignition and engine off. When I turned the key it jumped to the pegged position (20 v??). When I pushed the start button it dropped to 14 v while the engine was cranking and then back to pegged once the engine started. Thoughts on what might be going on?
